can you fit aftermarket 4x6 speakers in the dash?

I've looked all over Crutchfield's website, and everytime I plug in the vehicle information, it tells me that NONE of the 4x6 speakers will fit....which I find strange because I've seen write up's on here where they are used. I can't find any adapter plate/brackets for them.

My jeep currently has the 7-speaker set-up with the 4" speaker and the tweeter on each side of the dash...which adds up to 4 out of the 7 speakers. I can't imagine the mounting points being different on jeeps that have the 7 speakers package and those that have the 4.

It is true that a stock 4X6 speaker will not fit. There is an adapter plate I read about, but I just cut up the old speaker to mate with the aftermarket 4X6.

2000 Sahara, 3.5" Rubicon Express Lift, 1" spring spacer & 1" Body Lift, 33" or 35" BFG Mud tires, Front & Rear ARB, Rancho 9000 shocks, UCF Ultra High Belly Up, Savvy gas tank skid.

Yeah what doclouie said. I replaced the 4x6 in mine and did the same thing. Remove the old speaker and use a vise or something to hold it, then use a hack saw to cut/separate the speaker from the flat metal mounting bracket. Screw the new speaker to that old bracket and reinstall in jeep. Pretty simple.

There are adaptor brackets for 5 1/4 speakers lfor the front. Ebay, and do a web search. They are available from a lot of places or they are not hard to make. 5 1/4 will sound a lot better than 4x6. (The front is the same for the 4 vs. 7)
