Can't Fill Gas Tank?!?!?!

Hello all,
I have an 02 Wrangler X it has 4.0 and 5-speed. Lately I haven't been able to fill past full line. I thought hmmm strange. Checked mileage still getting about 250 miles a tank. Today from almost a dead empty tank it took 13.8 gallons and the gadge registers 7/8th tank. I can't even get it to full now. Any ideas??

Have you landed hard on your tank skid lately? I know I knocked almost a quarter gallon out of mine by denting it in.

In my '01 se (that's SUPPOSED to have a 19 gal. tank) I never get it all the way to the full line. Even when I run it until it shuts off and then try to top it off, it still stays around or a tad above 7/8

I bought my TJ almost three months ago and my fuel gauge always reads 3/4 full after a fill up. I just thought someone had put on a new fuel pump or something and jacked something up. No dents in the tank.

My guess would be something like the vent hose may be somewhat clogged/crimped. Also, realize those gauges are hardly accurate and easily messed up. It is also possible the floater needle/ball whatever it is may be a bit stuck.

Could have a fuel gauge tank float that is not floating properly anymore, or the needle on the gauge is blocked somehow. Could also be just a bad sending unit.
