Can't get Sub out of Console.

So I am trying to get the Sub out so I don't have to listen to it rattle around anymore.

Searched for threads on instructions, and while trying to follow them, the Sub still won't come out of the console.

So I got the console out of the jeep with no problem.

Instructions I found said take out the 3 screws around the speaker grill on the outside, then get the push nuts off of those 2 gold brackets, and the sub will slide right out.

So I took out the screws and the push nuts, and it still won't budge. What am I missing?

It is a 2002 wrangler X if that makes a difference.

You get the two inside the console?

all i can see it 2 more holding one of the gold brackets to the sub enclosure. But I already took out the push nuts so the brackets should slide right off.

It definitely feels like there are more bolts somewhere.

Okay you meant the 2 inside the storage compartment. Got it out, and there is no saving this thing.

Anybody know what specs a replacement has to be, as far as OHM rating and all that?

I have heard some people say get a pyramid, and some say you will be replacing it later. so without getting into brands, what are the specs I need to be looking for?

Also I keep hearing this thing is 6" but is that right? it looks bigger?

You sure it can't be fixed? Mine was torn all the way around used some fabric type glue works great now. If it is shot search the forum for pyramid sub, I believe someone on here used a kicker and said it was awesome but you might have to mod the box with a kicker. I think its a 6.5" sub.

If i put another surround on it, maybe. The cone itself looks okay. Don't know if i wanna waste any more time or money on a crappy speaker.

Curiously, if i just left it unplugged so i didn't have to hear it rattle around, would the rest of the system still work? or would that create some sort of open in the circuit.

I have heard of lots of people just unplugging it and no problems.

You can unplug it. It should pop out, but you might need to pry it out if it's stuck. I'm pretty sure its a dual voice coil 4ohm speaker.

Had to take a drive before I put the console back anyway. So no, unplugging it does not appear to affect anything else.

I am just going to leave it out for now, I will look for a speaker one of these days but I have to buy some spark plugs and wires and such for maintenance first before I go spending more money right now.

There are a bunch of threads about swapping the factory sub out with cheaper 6.5" replacements. the Kicker seems to be a popular one that only takes minor fitting to get in there...
