Sorry, I'm trying to decide on 2 99's. whichever shows better on carfax will be the one I go and take a look at.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Just pay the $30 for a month then you can run as many as you want. Its not always accurate either. I just bought a 99 that the carfax was clean on. 5 days later the retention clip for the clutch fork broke. Luckily I have a friend that is very "all knowing" for Jeeps. We dropped the transmission and relaced the clip. Easy fix for him but would have cost me a couple hundred at least. While we had the tranny down he made mention that it had been opened up and the shaft was recently replaced. This was no where on the carfax. He said also that the sealant used aftermarket is a different color than what is used at the factory.

Is carfax good? I guess for general stuff but you can't put all of your hopes and dreams in it. People fix stuff and don't report just like I had done. Could I have pitched a fit? sure....but the work appears to have been done well and it runs like a champ. I'm satisfied.

Pay the $30 and check them out. That's your best bet.

I'm sorry but if I could not have afforded the $30 I spent on my Carfax report I would not have been shopping for another vehicle. Good luck bumming a report off someone.

It's worth paying for the unlimited report account.

carfax is a waste of time
if you cant check out the vehicle yourself than bring someone with you who can.
look and see if the previous owner kept receipts-that says a lot more to me than any carfax report ever will

You should ask for receipts regardless but with say my 98 Jeep the current owners couldn't account for everything a previous owner had done with the Jeep. The reason I used Carfax was to check for anything serious that happened in the vehicles history with previous owners.

Sorry guys- I didn't realize it was only $30, I would have just done that right away. I was under the impression it was hundreds. Thanks!

Wow, I just went back and read the responses again and I have to say that I apologize RKWFXD- I didn't mean to offend you at all, simply asking a question- actually I was trying to help my sister who is looking for her first wrangler. Between the two of us we have, honsestly, owned 10 jeeps ranging from CJ's to Commanders (this really will be the first TJ). I hope not everyone on this forum is as quick to jump to conclusions and again I apologize.

No problem, didn't offend me at all. I'm just saying if a person can't afford $30 for a Carfax they probably can't afford the vehicle they want to run.
