Cargo Trailer

Hi all
I'll be making the Jersey to California move hopefully within the next couple of months and I've been trying to get information online on renting a trailer to hook up to my 2" hitch. I read on the U-Haul site that they don't rent them out if you don't have a hard top. I think the largest I can go is a 4x8. Has anyone ever rented one? Where from?
Cheers!

I used to manage a U-Haul and you are right, policy is not to rent if the jeep doesn't have a hard top. Reserve it online and pick it up with a friends vehicle. 5x8 is the biggest you can pull safely, the bigger double axle cargo trailer is too heavy.

I pulled a 4x8 from u-haul from Ohio to CA. It wasn't too bad of a pull. But, 4 weeks after I got out here, my master cylinder failed because the brake system got too hot, boiled the fluid and ruined the rubber seals inside the bore of the cylinder. I even have a manual and used the engine as a compression brake as much as I could and still had problems. So, I would advise against it, unless you plot a route that minimizes the amount of mountains you have to pull.

1999 XJ Four door, mostly stock for now, but I am in the process of building a custom plate bumper.

I'm not sure what the reasoning behind this rule is. This is what their website says http://u-haul.com/guide/index.aspx?e...nt=trailer-4x8
I may into shipping my personal stuff, not sure. I haven't looked into the route - I guess south will be better since it's going to be cold up here.
Thanks guys!
