Again, thanks Jerry and all. #1 priority is to get the extinguisher and order the clamp and figure out how to fabricate the plate for mounting the clamp. This forum has been so awesome for relative Jeep newbies like me. I appreciate being able to piggyback on your experience and advice.

I'll post a pic without the extinguisher in place later but your '06 has the same dimensions as my '04 so if you mount it as shown in the photo, it will be fine.

For those of you who don't carry a fire extinguisher take a look at my avatar. Best we can tell that fire started out as a shorted out ac blower or resistor short which spread to the glove box and caught the items in there on fire, it could have easily been stopped by even a small fire extinguisher.
I had just bought that Jeep for my girlfriend the week before.

I have a cheap white one I mounted with an awning strap from amazon $3, and a dog colar from the dollar store.

So after reading about your mount for years and never getting around to it, I finally just ordered one of the extinguisher mounts per the Ebay option pcwolf mentioned. Next question - any idea where in a retail environment someone who isn't and doesn't know a metalworker might get that piece of steel? Looks like something like this might be a start, assuming they can cut it and drill holes to my specs . I also assume there are some specs you want on the bolts to make sure they're going to withstand as much of a crash as you believe the mount itself will, since I do like having ankles.

Then it's just a matter of deciding if I like my Jeep enough to pony up for what one of these fancy halotron extinguishers costs

All you need is a piece of 1"x1/8" steel cut to 13" long which you can do on your own with a hacksaw. Any hardware store including Home Depot or Lowes will have have short lengths of 1"x1/8" steel in their hardware aisle. Then just drill some mounting holes & you're done, no need to a metal worker. Mount the bracket to that piece of steel & bolt it to the floor base mounts as shown in this thread.

I was under the impression Jerry's new TJ was new enough to have the fold and tumble seat... I also now looking more closely don't exactly see where this would mount to the front edge of the seat. I'll wait until the bracket arrives and I get a 5lb extinguisher to make a final judgement, though, as there could be some way to mount it through the bolts between the seat slider and the tub with a couple of angled pieces of steel...

My '04 only has a fold & tumble passenger-side seat.
