There are no cheaper options other than just ignore it for now. But when you are going 65mph on the highway and it starts bucking, spitting and missing, and then just dies. Try doing a cat replacement then.
i would replace it soon as possible when mine went bad on my old truck i was barely able to go 70 and my foot was to the floor and i was losing speed. I'm in the same financial situation as you but i suggest you get it fixed otherwise you could be on the freeway and if the jeep stalls you could cause an accident. It will throw a check engine light soon mine did and it will do it when you can barely keep speed
this is the cat just before the exhaust. it seems that some of the baffles are broken but not all of them. also guessing its the culprit for destroying my muffler.
Cat went back on my 97 2.4 and left me stranded with no engine codes, It would only idle and when I tried to limp it home it would bog and only go about 5mph spitting and coughing. You're choice but if you have the money go ahead and do it.
I have NO performance issues at all, but my cats are literally coming apart. The outer shields are rusted loose and rattle. Looks like a real bear to work on. Was thinking of putting a header on and moving the cats back below the header. Any thoughts?
