Hello everyone pretty new around here but I will be on here a lot. I have a 2001 TJ and just installed a CB radio. I installed the TeraFlex antenna tail light mount and have some questoins. i dont have a antenna yet so was looking for some advice. All the ones i've seen so far are either a magnetic mount or clamp mount. My bracket has a hole in it and i'm wondering where i can find one that mounts using that 3\4"? hole. also there is another smaller hole right next to it. Is that for the ground? Do you need to normally ground antenna? i dont see the hole being used on the below pic and thats directly from TeraFlex. Thanks everyone for the help
if u get a fiberglass antenna, it will be a 3/4 shaft, cause it needs to be insulated from the bracket, and the other hole your talking about is the one under it ? thats where u can drill and run your cb cable thru to the inside
Yep. Most folks run a Firestik antenna. I bout a 2' Firestik and it doesn't stick up above the top, which was my goal as that saves it from hanging up un limbs and such. I rolled my own tailight mount but yours should work out the same. You need an antenna and the mount.
Here's a link to the mount you want for your teraflex bracket.
You're on your own on the antenna. 4wd didn't have a 2 footer when I bought mine. Got it fronm the first place I found that had one online. CBWorld or something like that. They do have 3' and 4' I think, but a 4' will be way too tall with a talight mount. Here's mine.
Actually the hole you see in the picture below the top of the mount is a support hole that you drill into the body. There should be a bolt and nut that come with the bracket to use in that hole. The kit instructions say that it is optional but I did it anyway because when a tree branch catches your antennae it will put a lot of leverage on the bracket and risk ripping it off along with your taillight. The tiny tiny hole right next to the antennae on top of the bracket is a ground hole for antennas that come with a ground wire on them. Otherwise your antennae is suppose to ground through your mounting bracket to your vehicle. You have to clean some of the powder coat off to get a good ground otherwise you'll have problems with reception. Make sure you tune your antennae for optimum performance.
If you ever need CB parts and such, I use Walcott CB. They have tons of CB stuff and very knowledgeable people. I'm not sure how their prices compare to other places but I have never had bad business with them.
