CB cable fact or fiction

I was told that 18ft of CB cable is optimal for reception is this true or is it a myth?

Absolutely positively 100% a myth. While it sounds good to those with a bit of electronic education, it's really not true. Here's one good writeup on why it's not true... Exposing the 18' CB Coax Myth

While feedline length is critical for some balanced antenna designs, it has no effect on the types of antennas we use for our CBs.

Well just so we don't give him two links to the same information, here's another... The Ultimate Guide to 11 Meter CB Antennas

Scan down towards the bottom of that page for another very good explanation why the 18' cable length thing is a myth and which also explains why some SWR meters would seem to indicate otherwise.
