This is where a buddy has his mounted. I've had the same problem on deciding where to mount mine. I may put it right on the dash in the pocket above the radio.
Quadratec and others have a mount to put it vertically along the center console to the left of the 4wd lever. Out of the way, close by and doesn't make it a centerpiece to the car. Seems like a good option.
If you don't have a sub, you can try to hide it in the center console and notch a hole for the wire like they do for cell phones in newer cars.
I removed my ashtray and put mine there. Had to trim a little to get the bracket in. The top of the CB is in line with what would've been the front of the ashtray.
I've been collecting photos of CB mounts for the same reason. I just bought a CB, and I want it to look clean. Here's a few I've collected..These are not mine. I just saved the images.
Noteworthy bit: I don't have any of the head magnet (overhead) mounts pictured for a reason (they are a bad idea IMO...Head trauma). As a medical professional I'll stress this. Head Trauma is nothing to take lightly. Adding hard items hear your head in a motor vehicle is a terrible idea.
The second is my favorite mounting option. obviously it only works for small CBs. I'll likely go with #3, as I bought the 520XL
Mine is Mounted Overhead By using some Chain Link Fence Parts & a Piece of Top Rail,My Radiio is larger Than Most (Super Star 3900) so that is the only location that would work.
I've had multiple CB mount locations but the one location I have come to prefer by a huge amount is overhead, just above eye level.
That's how my CB and ham radios were installed in both of my TJs... I moved the mics over to the right later on the setup in the right-most position so they were closer to the radios. Both mics are on automatic spring-loaded retrievers so I only need to grab a mic, talk, and then it gets automatically pulled back into place by spring tension once I'm done talking.
you dont really tweak your cb much once its set, and no one ever sits in the back. I put a gear keeper on the mic to keep it from hitting me
