Looking to install a CB radio in my jeep for long trips with my club but I'm not sure of any really great ways to mount it. Anyone have any ideas besides the pre built mount systems you can buy online. I think I want it on my dash or overhead.

Overhead mounts are awesome. They hold the radios up & out of the way yet they're handy and easily controlled/worked.

I made my first overhead mount with some scrap aluminum plate between the spreaders of my previous TJ's rollcage but when that TJ was stolen, I went with a pre-fab mount from ARIZONA ROCKY ROAD ANTENNA MOUNTS FOR JEEP WRANGLER, UNLIMITED AND LIBERTY for my replacement TJ.

These are pics of my first with the home-fabbed mount & second with the Arizone Rocky Road overhead setups...

Dam Patrick, are you afraid of the dark....... I couldn't help but notice a lot of lanterns in the background..... you must be a collector ....... they look really nice, all kidding aside.

Drilled two holes in the top of the tray and ran the wires behind the dash. Add in some quick disconnect connectors and you can take it out to keep it from getting stolen or rained on.

X2 I went with this set up. I didn't like the overhead mount simply because seeing the mic cord swaying in my vision would drive me nuts.

Not any worse than stacking two overhead. Having been in a front collision and having my forehead remove the rear view mirror off the inside of the windshield, I'd prefer the leg hit.

I'm also one that can't handle the mike cord dangling in my vision so I built this one for Kat after having CB's mounted overhead, on the side of the console, under the dash, and similarly poor locations.

In my LJ, I initially attached my CB to the factory roll bar with hose clamps.

This put the speaker near my ear, and the mic looped up over the bar. The adjustments were awkward at first, but I got used to it.

Later, I moved the CB to the panel between the spreaders when I installed the front roll bar section in the LJ. Same place I had it mounted when I had the CJ:

I did the same on the roll bar...what i liked about it is i could hear the speaker since it was right by my ear, and any one that was over 6' would bump there knees where i had it previously which was down below the glove box....the only negative was changing the channels, but the rear view worked just fine!

Tried a few other locations but really like and settled on this one.
Buy a bunch of two-piece shaft collars the size to fit around your sport cage, McMaster-Carr is my preference, in aluminum so they don't rust and still conduct electrical grounds. Once you start, you find a hundred uses, I have aux lights, third brake light, extinguisher mount, etc etc etc using them.
Mounted where mine is, it also takes just an eight foot coax antenna cable to reach the behind the brakelight antenna mount

Pcwolf. How did you attach the bracket to those collars? Self tappers?

Thought I would add this to the mix. I built an overhead console with room for the cb mount in the center.

Mounted mine with small earth magnets designed to hold a few pounds each, 3 side by side wrapped in shrink tube and epoxied to the back of the Midland 75-822. I epoxied the other 3 to the back of the center console after I roughed up the surface a little. This is an all in one unit so I just need to install antenna and run cable and I'll just plug it In when I need it.
