center console question

I'm sure someone on here will know is thea difference in the center console's that have the factory sub? Mine doesn't have one and ice found a couple of the enclosure's that I can pick up at a decent price but I didn't know if I can just put it inside mine or if I have to cut the console to add it. Daveysjeeps has one and if it would be easier I probably could just buy that one.

Consoles that have a sub will have slats on the drivers side. You could pick up a center console cheap at a junkyard for $50 or so if you really want one. Otherwise lots of other options.

Ok mines just a real deep console its got the slats cut on the driver's side in the shape of a speaker but I didn't know how the sub enclosure fits inside of it. I didn't know if one that already has one is not as deep and it mounts under the console or inside of it.

I can't today the jeep is out at the shop with no tranny in her right now. I wish I could though. I don't know how else to describe it just like a box once you open the lid its got space all the way to the floor. I didn't know if one that has a factory sub was molded different so the sub fits under the console not inside of it.

No, Jeep installed center consoles with the slats on Wranglers that did not have the 7 speaker option withs the deep insert.

To the OP yes you can install the factory sub along with the shallow CD tray but I don't think the wiring harness is there without the 7 speaker option.

The factory sub is not that great. For the money you would pay, there are better options. There are plans in posts to build an enclosure to fit in the console or better, there are a number of small powered subs you can easily install under a seat.

Ok, that's what I figured mine is deep inside and I didn't know how that sub would fit inside of it. I can get the enclosure for 50 and figured I'd cut it out like others on here to add a 8" shallow sub and wire it up without the factory harness. I just didn't know if or how it fits in there. I've thought about just getting the tuffy center console that has the sub in it but didn't wanna spend 400 on a new console when mines still good. I've searched through some of the threads and seen the different options that people have done and some are very nice.

Ok so without seeing on installed I'm at a loss does the factory box fit inside the console or do the mount underneath it? Because mine console runs all the way to the floor its not a shallow console at all.

First...replace your dash speakers with the small JL that fit right in ( 4 inch round I think...they are terrific) huge performance from small speaker and will blow your stock ones away. Then 8 inch kicker will fit easily into console...you just have to snip a little bit of plastic inside...dead easy. Your head unit can run the sub however you can get a small alpine amp that will fit behind dash that will run all your speakers and your bottom end will be great.

Hope this helps...Im delighted with mine...John.

This is the only pic I have from when I replaced my factory sub. That sub is 6.5". The whole black box slides into the bottom of the console.

How does the sub fit inside the console, I'm upgrading all the speaker's at once as well the dash and the ones in the pods but I'm wanting to add the sub to the console and I can buy the factory sub enclosure pretty cheap but I had no idea how it'll fit inside there or does it mount underneath the console.

Ok so I'm guessing my console won't work for one then but I'll try and grab one from daveysjeeps that has one already in it. Ill just have to repaint it.

with the rear half of the console out of the vehicle you will see the sub body drops into the housing with the lip laying on the console ready for scewing in. Simply drop the new sub in and the screw holes will on the out side. Simple drill hole for the screws and it done.

Ok thanks one won't work with my current console then. Mines wide and deep all the way from the top to the bottom. I don't think it was made to fit a sub but that's cool I've just gotta order a different one then.

Yep, I did this too but did the Kicker 6.5" (much better) and an aftermarket amp with proper power for the sub. You will need a separate amp if your jeep did not come with the 7speaker system. I guess technically you could make your own harness and run the 4 speaker set wires, power, and amp turn on into the stock sub harness, but after all that it would probably be easier to install a new amp. Much better power to properly run the subwoofer than a stock amp would. I have a big writeup on here somewhere on how I did it all if you need it.
