Talking changed my header today and...

well i brought my TJ over to my buddies today (along with some pizza lol) to get some help changing my header and downpipe (PO welded the header to the downpipe) i went with the cheaper one that comes highly recommended by other forum members, the one with the expansion joints to keep it from cracking, looks like a really nice quality header considering its from autozone, well we got the intake manifold off and whadya' know i have had a borla header lol! so for anyone considering spending the extra money on one.. dont! i bought my TJ in dec. and it didnt have an exhaust leak at all, and it was so cracked that in 1 spot there was only .25" that wasnt cracked, in total i counted 5 cracks on it, took a short video of them just to show it, anyways all in all it was a nice easy swap took us 4 hours on the dot, and i spent 1 hour cleaning the intake / throttle body, and intake ports on the head with TB cleaner (intake valves were nice and clean so i left them alone) being that it is sunday and neither me and him can weld i got to drive it home on just the header + downpipe lol.. it sounds AWSOME lol if i didnt work third shift i would SOO leave it like this lol!! but im going to the muffler shop to have it welded to the cat in the morning, i do have a flowmaster 40 series which sounds nice, and will sound even better with a nice non-leaky header anyway heres some videos of the borla with cracks, first start-up and running on the highway lol

heres the borla, 1 of the cracks (its obvious which) is from me cutting around it to get it out

heres the first start-up, running a little rough at first due to the bottle and a half of TB cleaner i used but this is just open header w/o the downpipe, and also no O2 sensors lol

here it is with the header + downpipe, still no 02 sensor tho, didnt bother to cut the rest of the pipe out, going to let the shop worry about it lol, so we safty-wired it out of the way i LOVE the sound like this lol!!!

heres second + third OMW home, sorry for the bad camera action lol tryin to shift

and here it is on the highway, when it "sputters" thats me playing with the gas lol

Nice, glad you got that done. And yep that just confirms what we've been saying all along... don't waste your $$$ on Borla (or Banks) headers!

heres a few pics i just uploaded of the fun-

nice coating of fuel on the valve cover from letting the pressure out (dont as how we got it to go that way lol)

new downpipe sitting in the garage-

my buddy wrenchin' while i take pics lol-

first glimpse at the borla tag on the old header-

intake manifold off and ready to begin the cleaning-

wish i would have taken a pic afterwards, i got all the intake ports nice and clean / smooth (took a bottle and a half of cleaner tho lol)

buddy just pulled the header out after i finished cutting it and holding it up in victory in front of his truck lol-

dirty intake ports on the block (got them all nice and clean too) all the stains on the block around the freeze plugs is more fuel from letting the pressure out of the rail (there was about 1/2 a QT of fuel in there lol)

new header in place (hope this one doesnt crack )

intake back in, getting ready to torque it down

ill try and get a video of it with the flowmaster 40 2morrow if the shop finishes
