Changing gears is a pain

97 4.0 auto tj. I am an experienced mechanic . Decided to take my 307 gears out and replace them with 410 gears . What a pain , all of the measuring and shiming . I have a factory service manual it is very hard to follow. I think my hair is falling out!!!!!! Does anyone know of a publication that's cut and dry easy to follow for a Dana 30. And Dana 35.

Randy's Ring & Pinion website... http://www.ringpinion.com/Content/Ho...structions.pdf

And what you discovered is why I do all of my own work except where installing ring & pinion gearsets is concerned.

Very enlightening thread. An experienced mechanic having issues with gear set up. Like Jerry, I do a LOT of work on my rig myself, but not gears! You eff them up, and it is a big expense to replace them in a couple hundered miles.
