I dealt with these on gear heads and electric motors for irrigation pumps. They provide lifting points. I've also seen them break with no more than 500 lbs suspended from them in tandem.

If you were to utilize them on your jeep, you could make tie down points for cargo.

I saw a guy today with a 5 gallon gas can bungied to the grill, so I guess anything goes.

When I'm lifting a 3500lb compressor and those are the only lifting points provided by and recommended by the manufacturer, I use them. Yes they can fail if not used properly, if they aren't threaded in all the way to the shoulder at the top of the threads the rating is null and void. I never said I would use them as a recovery point but they do have tons of potential uses.

Yah, we use them for lifting 5000 lb scales. There may be a stamp on them I'll check. Just thought they might be useful to someone

This is along the lines I was thinking anyways thanks for the reassurance. I use this on all my undercarriage parts anyways. Just wasnt sure if it was flexible enough to go on the springs.

You'll have to let me know what you think about it when you use it. I sprayed my rear ones with brake caliper paint. Need to inspect them to see how well they are holding up. I'm going to be replacing all four springs very soon so I will have to decide which route to go.

Anyone know a plug alternative for splicing new fog lights into a factory wiring harness? Like I can pick up at Radio Shack?

I have new Hella halogens I am installing and would like to just use the factory connectors if possible. Either the ones tucked up in the fenders or at the bottom of the radiator behind the grill. Looks like the same connector in both spots.

Just cut the OE plug off and write them that way. That's what I did. If you ever need the OE plug (don't see why you would) you can just re-wire it back on.

Its not super cheap or super easy but for those who have seen my jeep here here is the story of all my upgrades.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/my-2...ml#post3114203

Of my upgrades, though, the LED light package was fairly cheap and fairly easy.

Sorry, that may sound like a lot. I've done some research & found the Midland 1001 LWX, it has met every one of my requirements. So if you have found an even better one, please reply to this post.
I've used a Uniden 510XL for some time and am pretty happy with it. Simple, no real bells and whistles (don't need any) and affordable.

I'm a fan of the Uniden 505XL as it comes with a speaker and PA out. It is also about the smallest CB unit you can get so you can mount it out of the way easily. Pair that with a Firestik 2 and you'll be set.

Sorry man but the 510 doesn't have a pa setting. When i bought my jeep (used) it had a pa speaker mounted in the engine compartment. I don't even know if it works, so if i some how find out it doesn't work, I'll probably but the 510 cb. But anyway thanks for the info

I will see if I can snag a pic after work today.

Thanks Solo and TJ. I probably should just do that. I am replacing the bumper in a few months and will need longer wires anyway so I can mount the lights in a new location.
