The wire mesh method holds up well. We did this to my old fairlane almost 15 years ago now and you can't tell there were ever holes there. We used a door off a donor car that had an extra chrome trim piece that my model didn't have, removing the trim left holes behind that we had to cover up. if you prep it right you end up with a solid smooth surface to paint over.

either method works well, fiberglass is expensive though.
Id like to see that, especially after 15 years of " shrinkage" im willing to bet a trained eye can easily spot that type of repair, which i might add is what is referred to as a " hack job" in the trade. If you dont weld the hole anything you put in there will shrink and eventually be noticeable.

Call it what you want, but it worked and you can't tell it ever had holes. I agree it is far from the best way, but this car was never going to be in any shows anyway. Sometimes alternate methods work just as well as accepted ones.

Only pic I can find of that side of the car. I am tempted to take the rest of the trim off the bottom too if I ever get back to Texas where the car is.

It's got two to many doors as a lot of collectors would say. JK nice fairlane though. My dad learned to drive in a fairlane wagon haha

Yeah i love that thing. My only regret about buying a TJ, is that I have no spare cash to spend on resurrecting that Fairlane. It still looks like that, but suspension/brakes/steering, are all original and need replacing bad.

If the cars not a show car, and you just want it too look nice. Do whatever is in your recourses. If the man wanted to post a picture of his left, well, ya know on the car over the hole, go for it! It's his car. Why does it matter. Ya know?

Yeah i wouldn't pay somebody to do it the way we did, even though it did work. But we were talking about rhino lining the area, not paint. You aren't gonna see a patch job through that stuff as long as you spray it on evenly, and prep the area well beforehand.

Exactly. But it's done, it looks good, and it's how you wanted it. That's all that really counts.

Still have a few cuts to make once we set them under there before we weld them but whle lot cheaper than buying a set and they are 1/4 inch thick so they won't go nowhere,

That sound like a horrible idea.... First time you rub up against a rock it's gonna shred the paracord.

Agreed, they would look great until you have to actually use the sliders, not to mention that paracord is a PITA to clean.

Itd be like wrapping your tires with paracord....

Now a spare tire cover made from paracord would be cool.

can you help me figure out how to do this weave pattern? I like it and need to build a few grab handles.

I used the pattern they use for survival bracelets on my zipper pulls, worked out well

If you know how to do the regular cobra braid, all you have to do is do the same patter over a regular one, its called a King Cobra braid, I'm sure you can find it on YouTube.

A new relay that works with LEDs is only about $35 shipped from eBay.

Locate the Flasher relay, Open the relay, use an exacto knife to cut the burned out light bulb feature and be done with it. Takes about 5 minutes.

Just make sure you cut all the way through the ribbon to ensure that it doesnt still have a small connection.
