I made it from the bracket that came on the extinguisher and 2.5" muffler clamps. I welded the clamps to the bracket, but you could also drill and bolt them together. Total cost was less than $5 for the clamps…

Added much needed storage to my TJ. Had some seat organizers that I was trying to use on the backs of the seat but they wouldnt work with me folding the seat up every time I went to the grocery store. So I spent some time trying to find a good place for them and when I sighed really deep and was about to give up I saw it! Right over my head. heres a pic:

Easy enough to do. I just tied the ends to my roll bars and then used the clips and strapping that came with the seat organizers to tie them together in the middle. ofc I have a little help from my soft top since it has bars that run down the middle of it to help hold it up there. I wouldnt put too much in there but its a good place to store a tire repair kit, some duct tape, sunglasses, and whatnot.

Yes. Most come with a mounting bracket. But be aware, some come with plastic brackets.

Has anyone made door straps to keep door from swinging to far. One of mine broke and I made on from 550 cord but want a nicer looking one. Any ideas?

i replaced mine for my suzuki samurai from a seat-belt, this stuff is unbreakable! and they look good, i doubt that there is a better solution. if i ever needed to replace the ones on the TJ, i will definitely do the the same on the jeep

Walmart has some nylon strapping you can cut to size and clip together for less than $5.

62 pages is a lot of reading, sorry if this has been done already.

Wired up a under hood light today, Got the light from a 2000ish chevy truck after a recent junkyard trip (I like to walk around and find factory stuff I might be able to use, wife thinks I'm nuts) it had a full braided ground strap, wire loom, and got enough wire to be on the other side of a factory plug. paid 1.00

had a switch left over from a fog light kit, and the wire was trailer wire I had from rewiring my trailer, the standard Yellow/yellow brown stripe stuff.

I mounted the switch up front for easy access, ran the wires along the passenger fender, stopped one wire lead off at 12V+ by the power distribution box on the fender, ran the other along the firewall with the harness and then up the hood and spliced it into the plug from the light. the ground strap from the light when right where the ground strap for the hood hooked up and two small self tappers to mount it to the center channel on the hood.

Everything I had other than the light so I am 1.00 into it. but to buy the splices and heat shrink and switch and wire you might have 15 more in it.

A couple notes...I put the switch right next to the hood prop hole. Of course the underside has a doubler plate for the support rod that mounts right there (and I didn't realize it). I drilled about 1/8" on to it so the switch retaining nut was a pain to get on. I took my headlight out to help mount it, just look around for a open spot, or pick a different area to put the switch, clearance for the switch is tight also with the hood right there, but i cleared, if you buy a switch, a nice low profile push on/push off would be a nice idea.

And I see why Chevy mounted the light back by the firewall, it throws some light! make sure your clearance is ok when the hood is closed, i have a 4 cyl so there's plenty of under hood room, but you fancy I6 guys might have to go father back on the hood to clear the engine.

well I'll be damned! I just went back out and turned the light on and went to shut the hood to see if the light would show underneath the jeep in case it ever turned on with road vibration and i didn't know it. and at about 30 degrees from closed....it turned off!

it has a mercury switch in it! i wouldn't of messed with the switch had I of known that, but its cool..i like manual control. it just got cheaper. run one power wire to it and you've got light underneath

I would've said something but I thought you knew. I traded in a silverado for the jeep so I had the exact same light under the hood.

My light was getting old in the truck. I had to open the hood then flick the light to get the switch to rock over lol

My 97 Sport came with the under hood light and yes it does work on a Mercury switch and it's still going strong after all these years.

My under hood light has never worked, but I usually have bigger things to work on when I am in there. I will have to fix it so I can play with the switch too.

I made my own thread for it, but since it was set out to be cheaper then the kits I will post it here.

Also there was a member I had been talking to about it in PM but I lost his name.

So here is the link to my cheap, easy, fun in cab winch controls.

Amazon has some adjustable door straps for $5 that have several holes so you can have you door open any amount you want. Just search for Jeep Door Strap and it is the first one that came up on mine.
