Check engin light on

It came on this weekend. It was on for a day or so .Then I got gas and it went off after that . Then on the way home it came back on again. I took my gas cap off this morning and put it back on just to see but the light stayed on all the way to work.

Any ideas. Can I check the codes somehow or do I have to take it in?

Turn the key on-off-on-off-on leave it on the 3rd time, the codes will come across the odometer.

Note on noble app so can't see your year, but it doesn't work on 98-99

Or you could go to autozone or something similar they will usually check them for free

How to

Yes there is a way and i found this out through another thread on this forum. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position position 3x. On the third time just leave it in the on position and it should show the codes in the odometer display. Also, just to stress turn it to the on position and not the ignition position.

Good Luck

Cool got it.

Now that brings me to my next question since Im a newb to Jeeps. My Jeep has 2 down pipes comming off the manifold ,is that stock? Its two pipes then it looks like maybe two small cats then it goes into one. I can see what looks like to me at least three o2 sensors. One on each of the down pipes and one at the Y pipe.

Its a 05 LJ. I have to order some stuff from Rockauto anyway for my truck.

Thats surprising to me that they had the exhaust aranged that way from stock. Has anyone ever attempted to do duals all the way back? I know it wouldnt preform better but I bet it would sound cool.

Not sure about duals

The made the 2 piece manifold because the earlier 1piece had problems cracking

Thanks a lot guys this forum rocks. I noticed the ends of the o2 sensors are close to the bottom of the intake manifold. Is it a PITA to get the sensor off? I wonder if the wires got messed up sense they look like they rub on the intake.

No not to hard to replace, they have a socket you can get for them.
I have a 4 cylinder so I don't know how tight it is on the 6 cylinders, but I used an adjustable wrench on mine
The wires have a protective shrink wrap on them

check your O2 sensor. Swing by your local auto parts store and have them check it (most do it for free now) if it is the sensor order it there (prob. around $50.00) and put it in yourself, super easy!!!!!! like changing a light bulb!!!

Thanks but I already ordered one form rockauto.com It was only $15.87.

Once I put it in do I need to clear the code? If so how.

As I am responding to this I got an email form them letting me know it already shipped. They are awesome.

15.87? Did you get a universal or the OEM specific? The universal is usually a lot cheaper because you have to cut the wires and splice them together with your original wires/connector. The OEM specific has the connector on it and you just plug it in.

I think Im willing to pay $35.00 less to splice wires.

Actually I didnt see any other options for it on the rockauto site. Oh well its on the way now.

I got the first one on the list because it says "exact fit". Also its a Bosch. I thought they made good stuff.

I didnt notice some of the others are 'upstream front ' too. I think I stopped looking after I saw what I needed on the top of the list LOL.

I've got a Bosch in mine and every once in a while it'll throw a code because for some reason the heater circuit doesn't heat up as fast as they should.

The Bosch will be fine I've had mine in for little over year, but I'm getting ready to replace it with an NTK

The NTK is factory brand

Looks like 23018 is the part number for the NTK. I guess I will put the Bosch in and if it starts throwing codes I will replace it with the NTK.

Thanks.
