you are asking this question on a wrangler forum, what answer do you think you will get?

that is actually a relative question. it depends on how you drive and what kind of experience you have. i've seen guys with lifts, lockers, and 35's get stuck where a stock wrangler walks right through. no amount of equipment can make up for a lack of common sense. you do need to keep in mind that you are on a wrangler forum so the answers are going to lean in that direction.

im betting on the chevy....hes gonna care alot less about thrashing an 89 compared to you and your 04....plus his wheel base will allow him to climb obstacles better than a wrangler

the chevy will get high centered, and the lack of articulation will make the chevy the loser. depending on the terrain of coarse, a mud bog and the jeep is gonna look bad.

It kind of depends on the terrain as well. On the west coast, if I were doing desert racing AND mid-light trail runs then I'd go for the truck which has the IFS. But if it the rig was seeing more rock crawling, then I'd go for the jeep

depends on where the contest is held and the driver ability but if i was told i had to chose between those two and i would end up going through an offroad course somewhere id pick the jeep, it ahs more versatility, it can handle mud ok, rocks amazingly and anything on the east coast well, as opposed to the truck who will suck on short trails and get high centered rock crawling and with bald tires might not do to well in mud

Well assuming the 29 year old chevy starts and is not rusted to the frame, and can move under its own power, maybe he could win. Define off-road.. are we talking about the walmart parking lot? What exactly defines the winner in the competition?

1989 to 2009 = 29 years???
WOW!

I hate to admit it, but my 91 lifted Silverado walks all over my TJ in most any given situation. My TJ is a hell of alot easier to maneuver, but that's about as far as it goes.

It all really depends on how you drive them, and the experience level of the driver.
Especially when it comes down to knowing what to do, and what NOT to do.

But just like anything else.... to each their own.

LOL

Unless he's asking on a Chevy board, my money is on him since you're asking here. If you have to ask.....

Here's how to determine the winner....
Put him in some High Artc. Spots and watch him snap the clip that holds his half shafts in. Then help him fix that. Then get him going over a set of rocks and bumps and watch his starter leads grab a hold of the header down pipe and watch his truck not start repeately. Help him repair that. Then in the last category, roll both of them over and the one that can just be flipped back over and driven back home will win.
I had a 93', good truck NOT A JEEP

Just a thought!
