Chrome Grille, or Painted Grille?

Some knucklehead in a F-250 backed his super compensator truck into my jeep a few days back. Only hit the grille thank god, and only bent the weaker frame around the holes inwards, with no obvious damage past that.

While that sucks, the insurance company gave us money to replace the grille, get it painted. Told us to bring it to a approved shop to do it, just incase additional damage is found.

Girlfriend has her eyes set on getting a Chromed Grille instead of the painted one we had before, and I am curious about what you guys think about that. I personally never seen one on a Jeep, but girlfriend has and thinks it would make our Black TJ look great.

She has always been big on visual appeal. But what do you guys think? Free ether way, just not trying to make my Jeep looked like a Chromed nightmare.

She just showed me this as a example. We'll shop around of course.

Neighbor of mine has one on his red TJ. It definitely makes you notice it. All personal preference really. Cant say I like them, especially on a black TJ. If it matches your wheels then it may mesh better though.

Well, I got a rather stock 05 Jeep. Chromed Foot Step, Grey Wheels (not chrome), all black, blacksoft-top.

In-fact. Here is my Jeep as of a year ago. Looking at this photo, a Chrome Grille actually might make it look nice. Hmm.

Yea I can see it fitting on there. It just depends on what you want in terms of looks. Obviously if you plan to black it all out in the future then the chrome grille wouldnt fit.

My neighbor's looks funny cause its the only chrome piece there. You already have a couple pieces so itll mesh better. Just dont go overboard like trim/fake vents and stuff and it can be tasteful.

I personally dont like the chome grill on a black jeep. There is a black jeep thread with numerous pics of black jeeps with chrome grills, Take a look, its all personal preference.

I think I speak for many on this board when I say Chrome looks like crap on a Jeep. To each his own though.

I like chrome when it came from the factory like that. Funny no one has ever made fun of the chrome grill on my dads Jeep .

Old pic, but not much has changed.

No to the chrome. I say replace it and paint it white or grey. That would look a lot better than chrome. As above, chrome isn't for jeeps

Uh, no thanks to painting the grille to a different color. I would rather avoid the "I replaced this at the junkyard" look. Chrome or Black. Nothing else.

But overall, I wish I had some images to look at of Chromed Grilles on black jeeps. Image Search sucks and keeps showing me Jeeps with those horrid Chrome Inserts instead of what I need to see.

When I got mine it had a Chrome grill. I wouldn't have put one on myself, but it looks good anyways. Yours on the other hand might not go as well being a black Jeep, but you can always bedline it if you don't like it. Or plastidip it.

Also, you would have to get the painted stock grill anyways, wouldn't you? The Chrome one sits on top of it.

The only chrome I like is on 70's and below trucks and cars and only the bumpers. Anything else no thanks.

Yeah, I noticed that a few minutes ago. I thought it was a actually full Grille replacement of the OEM Chrome Grille. The Grille 'Faceplate' product that is on the market is just.. yeah, that's just stupid..

Moral of the thread, Chrome Grilles look good on the CJ's, but not so much on the TJ's. I'll keep researching the idea, and talk to my girl about it.

I think she loves my jeep more than she loves me. She pretty much was about ready to kill that F-250 idiot when she saw he backed into my Jeep.

I don't know about any one else but I'd let my GF decorate my apartment, not my Jeep.

I had the chrome overlay on mine from the PO. But it didn't look right on my all black Jeep. So I bedlined it. 2 Cans of Black Rustoleum Bedliner and 3 coats later, I couldn't be happier.

Bugs guts can be a bit of a pain, but a stiff brush takes care of them.
