Cigar lighter.

Hi folks got a 98 wrangler and cigar lighter has stopped working, don't smoke, but its good for powering iPod. Anyway checked the fuses and all seem ok. So any idea where the power source comes from? Cheers.

Mine kinda just popped out so I taped the wires off and haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.I have a 2000 so it may just be poor design.

Have you checked on the back side of it yet for power and ground?

tried everything i could think of i ended up replacing cigar lighter with after market then i would blow a fuse more often than i care to not every time but often enough, so ran a new wire with inline fuse from fuse panel (rear wiper as i dont have a hard top and its rated for 20 amp) then new wire to my cigar lighter Works fine now ////// 2nd i ran a new wire (with inline fuse ) from battery through fire wall just follow vacuum line next to heater core hoses ) and installed aux power plug grounded it to bolt under carpet at the front of the console directly below the floor heater vent. hope this helps

You will have to check fuses in both areas, behind glovebox and under the hood. Most forget to check the fuse under the hood in the PDC.

In your ’98 there are 2 fuses & a relay for that circuit. Fuse 5 (40a) in the PDC feeds to a relay then to fuse 19 in the fuse block. The power to close the relay comes from the ignition switch when it is on or in the accessory position. The relay is under the dash next to the block of about 8 big connectors to the left of the steering column. If you have no power to the lighter socket, go to fuse 19 & recheck it or even swap it. Next see if the relay clicks when the key is turned on if yes the recheck fuse 5.

Do you have reverse lights? Mine lighter always blew a fuse when they came on. Ended up being reverse switch

I would remove it and run an electrical testor to the power wire behind it. Those things can twist around, and I'm thinking that it might have been shorted that way. I actually hooked up an additional one myself that runs behind the console to power my android. Plugging and unplugging my cell phone charger/holder was destroying my cigarette lighter and the wires and stuff was dangerous. I wound up doing this. You can see that I have my cigarette lighter area clear now, and the wires run behind my console and through the gooseneck.
