Cigarette lighter fuse blows as soon as ignition is turned

I have a problem that started occurring last weekend about a month after I installed my aftermarket radio so I'm not sure if I caused the problem or not when installing the radio. As soon as I turn the ignition in my Jeep the cig lighter fuse blows. I went and bought a new socket from advance auto but I'm not sure how to get the old one out. Is there a writeup explaining how to do this? There are threads on the back of it so does the lighter socket screw in? Is replacing this the right thing to do to be on the way to fixing it? I need this to work this weekend because I'm going camping and I will need to charge my phone. Does any of the wiring for the radio have to do with the cig lighter? I only replaced the two front and two back speaker and put in a new head unit. I didn't replace any wiring.

I don't know but my fuse blows anytime I try to push in the lighter. I figure we both have a gounded wire or a disconnected ground somewhere.

My friend had this problem in his car(not jeep but maybe the same problem). when he wired it up, he hooked up his memory wire(yellow) to an ignition on power wire. the problem he had was he manage to get on a light circuit. This wire ran one voltage for DTR lights and more power for headlights. He didn't have an issue for two or three weeks. the first time he pulled the knob for lights the radio smoked for a couple of seconds. after this it would not smoke but he would pop the horn/cig lighter fuse.

So if I were you I'd pull the radio and check for melted wires.

Couple questions-did you use a quick plug and play harness or wire circuits in? When you removed the panel to access the radio did you pull the lighter assembly also? Realize it is not needed but it might have made it easier to get at radio wiring.

The replacement is fairly easy (of Lighter recepticle) did mine a few months back-but don't remember it screwing in mine is an '04 TJ.

The hardest part was removing/figuring out how the old one came out. Do remember having the whole mounting plate for lighter outside the Jeep.

BTW when a fuse is blowing in this manner there is a "hot" wire or connection straight to ground----somewhere. The electrical gremlins are no fun to chase.
