Looks cool. It's one of those mods you may never see again on another Jeep. Those are the best.

The chapters are in my write up for all to see.

Cannot tell you how great it is to NOT be a mod anymore. Working on my Jeep, got a new welder and getting a plasma torch, knocking down projects [like moving my web site and completely rebuilding it] every day, wife is happier and so am I.

Let me finish my front bumper extension and I am ready to hit some trails with you

AND:

For those who have asked about how I latch the tail gate? I just added some pics of the latching method. Check it out

Matt the tailgate is a perfect fit requiring no mods at all.

That's a really cool mod. I've heard of people doing it but have yet to see a good write-up. Great write-up and you have a very clean and informative site.

Thanks Scout. I try to make my site worth going to, look for it to get a lot larger in the future now that I have a LOT more time to devote to it...

That is VERY cool, and would be pretty handy, since my TJ is also my truck! Any way to see those pictures on your site larger? Also, if I understand, the difficulty was mainly due to the armor already on your corners, right? What would it take to do this with no armor in the way? I've never had a CJ, so I'm not familiar w/ how they mount, etc..

Yes, click on the "magnifying glass" underneath each pic for larger pics.

If you don't have any armor and you have not done any work to the frame under the tub at the back of it then it is fairly simple, just not real easy.

You have to drop the fuel tank to get at the back side of the tub. Cut a hole back there and put a reinforcing plate behind it to attach the hinges too. Let me know what you do.

The other option would be to use the 3M panel bond glue like I was working on.

Oh great, now I need to find a swing out tire carrier that I can lift the whole carrier off so I can drive around and show my fancy new tailgate! I wonder if I could close the swingout with the tailgate down?

im guessing this wouldn't work well with the hardtop on cause there would be no way of reaching in and unlatching it correct?

Well with the rear hatch up I don't think there'd be any issues.

Or you can do some fab work and install a handle like on a pickup truck.

Damn! I never thought about that! I'll need to look into that before I start buying any parts for this!

You bring up and interesting issue which begs the question...what did Jeep do on the CJs that came with a factory hardtop?

Might want to ask this question on a CJ board.

I can see several solutions but not having a hardtop not sure I want to try and sort out....
