What do the letters of each Jeep model stand for? I figured YJ was young jeep, TJ was true jeep, LJ is long jeep, and JK is just kidding (hah sorry jk lovers) but seriously, does anyone know what the letters mean? Or do they even really stand for anything? This has been on my mind for a while please help me out!!!

There were also MJ's - Military Jeeps (ie, the original designs that led to the design of the Civilian Jeep)
As Jonny said they're just model codes now. Here's a list:
  • CJ - Civilian Jeep
  • DJ - Dispatcher Jeep - 2WD versions of the CJ-3 and -5, some versions also made as right-hand-drive for mail delivery.
  • FJ - Fleetvan Jeep - Van version of the FC/CJ
  • KJ - Liberty since 02 (Still called Cherokee in foreign markets)
  • MJ - In addition to Mil. Jeep, used for Comanche (86-92) - a pickup version of the Cherokee.
  • SJ - Used for many models - Wagoneer (63-83), J-Series trucks (63-88), Super Wagoneer (66-69), Cherokee (74-83), and Grand Wagoneer (84-91)
  • TJ - Wrangler (97-06)
  • VJ - Willys Jeepster - Less utilitarian version of the CJ that only lasted three years in production.
  • WJ - Grand Cherokee (99-04)
  • XJ - Used for Cherokee (84-01) and Wagoneer (84-90)
  • YJ - Wrangler (87-95)
  • ZJ - Grand Cherokee (93-98) and Grand Wagoneer (93)
  • JK - Wrangler since 07
  • WK - Grand Cherokee since 05
  • XK - Commander since 06
  • FC - Forward Control trucks - Essentially cab-over versions of the CJ-5.
  • C101 & C104 - Jeepster Commando - Similar to the VJ, also having very short production runs.
