cleaning soft top windows

my windows are nasty. scratched, foggy, etc.

ive read into it online, and ive heard pledge works.

i have pledge here at the house, its ''multi-surface'' cleaner, not the plain jane lemon pledge you usually see.

i would think the multi surface cleaner would be a little safer to use on the plastic.

anyways has anyone else tried this?

im looking for a cheap household type cleaner to clear them up. i really dont want to spend 20 bucks on jake the snakes mystery snake oil wrangler window cleaner and have to order it online.

I don't know but I have the same question. I have looked at a few plastic cleaners at the auto parts store but some of that stuff could just make things work. Does anything use anything that can be picked up at an autoparts store

I just cleaned mine today with mothers hard plastic cleaner i got it at auto zone it was 6.99 it worked really good my back window was messed up bad. it took a lot of the scratches off and cleared it up really good. I put rainx on it to see if that will help during the rain.

I use Meguires plastic cleaner. Its made to clean scratches from plastic windows, you have to exert some effort but it works great.

so nobody has heard of using pledge? ive seen it on a few forums but it just sounds weird to me.

im gonna hold out and grab some plastic polish and one of those power ball deals for cleaning rims and use that on my windows with my cordless drill and see how it works.

thanks for the input

i use windex with a old t-shirt first, then use pledge with a other shirt afterwards. do not use paper towels, they will scratch.

see ive heard not to use windex because it contails alchohol and it will mess up the windows somehow.

so how is the pledge working for you? which kind do you use? like regular lemon lol?

I havent had a softop on for a loooong time so I guess I never saw the bad effects of the windex. I just used it before to get rid of dust and dirt before using the pledge.
but thats good to know since im getting ready to put my softop back on

the pledge worked great, it would get rid of alot of the little "scratches" that would "get glare"(does that make sense?) and make the windows much clearer. and I used it on both sides of the window.
it seemed to ware off so I reapplied it every couple weeks.
and yeah, i used the regular lemon, I dont have any experience with the other pledge but the lemon pledge makes the jeep smell great

So it doubles as a window cleaner and air freshener?

hmmm. well all i have here in the house is some pledge - protection plus- clean scent.

it says it removes up to 84% of allergens in dust, so i guess thats a plus lol.

im gonna try it out tomorrow when its not -20 like it is right now lol. just on a small spot on the back window.

it cant get any worse, i have black overspray on all the windows, and the back windows have some spots where it looks like its melted, or pitted real bad from something.

nothing youll notice from 5 feet away but i notice it lol.

ill post up if it works or not.

im curious about the ''clean scent''. i think i would prefer lemon.

I've been wondering this as well. As far as cleaning the canvas top and windows on some boats they recommend Pledge. I just didn't want an oily residue on my windows.

I decided to use windex to clean my soft top windows last week and only got to one of them before I got distracted by something else. Well when I went to clean the rest of the windows the next morning, I noticed that the one I cleaned with windex was very cloudy. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of the cloudiness, but it will not go away. I myself will not use windex anymore.

I know this is a very old post - but I have been using Pledge on my soft top windows for years without any problems. Just spray it on the window and wipe it in a straight across movement . DO NOT DO A CIRCULAR MOVEMENT - as that could give you stretches from dirt your trying to remove. Do it once and use a clean part to do it again. Leaves a nice clean shine that water beads off in the rain.
