Clicking Noise Under Dash

I have been noticing a clicking noise under the passenger side dash lately. It only happens when I am on the accelerator. It sounds like a switch flipping or something. It clicks and then 3-5 seconds later clicks again every time. It is really getting to be annoying. Anyone here have any idea what it might be?

I have that when the A/C is on (some relay going on and off). It has always happened so I assume its normal. Could it be the same thing you are hearing?

You are correct. It only makes the clicking noise when the air is on. Can the relay be replaced if that is what it is???

I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I am going to try to find the problem this afternoon. Hopefully it is something easy to get to, and not very expensive.

I have narrowed down the location of the clicking noise. It is up under the passenger floor board right above your feet. Does anyone know what it could be???

My guess is the blower motor resistor or something of that sort, that's right up under your feet. It's two bolts to remove and then it pulls right out. But what do I know? My AC doesn't even blow.

Mine does the same thing, I just replaced the blower motor resistor because I only had high speed for the blower. It still does it after I replaced the resistor, but hey at least I have all the fan speeds now.

So I take it that no one really knows where the clicking noise is coming from exactly. I guess it is something I can live with. Just have to roll the radio up so I don't hear it. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be, please let me know.

it is difficult for us to know where it is with out being there and hearing it. if the clicking is coming from the passenger side above your feet when the a/c is on, then the best guess is the aforementioned relay. that is where i would start.

Could be your actuator doors for the a/c starting to go. Just had to replace all three of mine. $1300.00 at the garage

If it does it only when the A/C is on it is possible you are hearing the clutch on the compressor engaging and disengaging as they are supposed to do.

did you check for a group of mice playing instruments under your dash? I believe it could be the mouse with the bongo, those are quite loud instruments, even miniature bongos. seems to be a pretty common problem among jeepers (who are on heavy doses of acid)

All jokes aside - the actual blower motor is right there as well. Mine makes a constant ticking noise that I can hear when the fan is on a low speed setting. If I turn up the speed of the fan, the noise seems to be masked by the sound of the blower motor running at a high speed. So, I think it is the blower motor that is about $160 to buy from an auto parts store.

I know it has been a long time since I posted this, but I figured out what the clicking noise was. It was was the compressor clutch engaging and disengaging, due to low freon. Thanks for the help!!!

my 2.5 doesnt have A/C but I found it was those plugs that are not being used hanging there hitting the firewall when I accelerate.

When under acceleration the vacuum drops. Since the heater/air doors are operated by vacuum they are probably closing, then opening again when you let off.

The foam insulation where the doors seal is probably gone or slipped, so it's plastic to plastic - click. I wouldn't worry about it.

I know this is old, but if you're still here, how did you figure it out?

It is probably the blower motor relay. There are 2 relays under there on the right side behind the glove box door, I could actually feel the relay clicking with the A/C on before I replaced them, an easy $15 fix
