I'm brand new here, and pretty green on the mechanical end of things. Have tried a couple of successful repairs on a 2005 TJ lately (with lots of internet searching to help), but there is a new clunk that I just can't figure out.
It's a metal sounding clunk that happens only in lower gears, often when slowing down. Seems to be coming from underneath somewhere, but hard to pinpoint what area, front or back, left or right. We changed the pinion seal on the rear diff, and replaced that u joint a few months back, and that took away our original clunking noise. When this new clunking started to happen it sounded like the same problem, so we changed the other u joint on the rear drive shaft, but it hasn't helped.
Any ideas where to look from here?
Thanks in advance!
