clutch?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I am trying to learn how to fix things myself. So I'm out today and all of a sudden it seems like my clutch is making all sorts of noise - almost like a spring...When I go to accelerate, it seems like a loose spring noise, almost a loose heat shield. When I'm idle, in neutral (clutch disengaged (I think, always mess up this term), there's like this ticking, but when I engage the clutch it goes away, until I let it back out. Any idea what this could be? PO said he just redid the clutch (less than 500 miles ago).

a side question - what's a decent service manual to walk through things like this on a jeep? I've always used Haynes or clymers for harleys and they were fairly good detailing everything.
