Clutch tranny issues

Ok guys,

Neighbor Kid was trying to drive thru mud and water, got stuck and was bouncing between 1st and rev trying to get out with no luck. Was pulled out and now he can do the following -
1 - put into gear without the using the clutch, jeep doesn't move
2 - goes into gear with clutch and still car doesn't move
3. the drive shaft isn't spinning
4 - no noises are made going into or out of gear
5 - even if 4wh or 4wl is moved into or out of position nothing

Does this sound like linkage, clutch gears or other itmes. What items should I check for him first vs throwing parts and hope and pray?

If everything you listed is accurate, I would pull out the transmission and find out if the input shaft is still in one piece.

Also, there have been rumors that mud and muddy water can act like sandpaper on the shaft and get the throwout stuck in forcing the clutch in perm disengage... I wouldn't know this from experience or anything *grumble mumble grrrr*
Either way i agree with ^^^^ gunna have to pull that trans...

Ok so check the input shaft, if that's OK is there any thing else we should do with the tranny while it's out? Do manuals need fluids?

Yes, manual transmissions need fluids. I would pull the transmission and find out exactly what parts are working properly or not. The throwout bearing could be stuck out, as mentioned by Shadowkraze, it is possible. There has to be a reason why the input shaft (if it is spinning with the engine) is not also spinning the gears inside the transmission.

Thanks,

I really thing its the bearing stuck(or hope that it is), he said he didn't here anything grinding or breaking. it just wouldn't drive after pulling it out

Things needed for sure - Clutch fluid is old and turning grayish, transmission fluid change and rear end gear lube changed.

Can you access the throwout bearing w/o pulling tranny

You need to pull the transmission to access the throwout bearing. If the throwout bearing IS stuck out, then the clutch pedal would have little or no resistance when you push it.
