Colorbond carpet dye

Anyone ever used the Colorbond carpet dye to refresh worn/stained TJ carpet?

Restore automotive or marine leather dashboard and carpet with Colorbond Classic

How about the plastic dye?

How did it work? Was the carpet stiff or did the plastic flake?

I was thinking of either refreshing the crappy carpet & my dash to give me some more time before I rip the carpet out & Herculine it

or...

maybe even changing the plastic to an all-black look when I Herculine it.

I wonder if it'll work...

I used colorbond to make charcoal carpet black. that was 2 years ago and it still looks great. It did not make the carpet stiff, and it has not flaked.

Good news! Thanks! How much did it take to color a carpet? I figure 1 can should do it.

Anyone use the plastic dye with success? Failure?

I only sprayed the two rear wheel well carpets with one can. There was some left, but I do not remember how much.

bump for plastic dye opinions & more carpet dye opinions.

eventually will raptor-line my tub but need to cover the horribly stained carpets until them. Also thinking about going all black on the dash & doors.

Is Colorbond worth it?

My TJ did not have carpet when I purchased it so I bought some passenger area carpet made by ACC for $130. It seems to be pretty good quality and is molded from an actual TJ tub mold. It also comes with the padding attached to the underside and has a heel rest on the driver side. Where I'm going with his is that they make a bunch of different colors which may be easier than dyeing your existing carpet.

I'm going to Raptor-line the tub eventually so I don't want to spend much before then. I will pull the carpet out and try using soap & a pressure washer at the local car wash. I was thinking of dyeing it after that.

I think you'll be surprised how much a good pressure washing does. Pulled mine and spent quite a bit of time with some orange cleaner and the pressure washer on it this fall and it looks a zillion times better. Leave it to dry in the sun for a good long time and it will, look and smell better, I promise

As for the Raptor liner, do it sooner than later. I had mine done when I pulled the carpet, and the carpet is still in the garage. That's probably where it'll stay...

I gotcha. Raptor liner huh? I only put carpet in my passenger area and planned on using herculiner in the back storage area but I'll have to look into Raptor liner!

Thanks,

Wes

So far as the vinyl dash goes, I'd probably use Krylon Fusion which is an aerosol paint made specifically for vinyl. Krylon has a version of Fusion out now too for vinyl but I don't recall its name but I'd probably trust the Krylon to spray on better with less chance of running based on my experience with their standard aerosol paints. Fusion remains flexible after it dries so it works well for vinyl.

Good advice. Thank you!
