Confused by all the different tire and lift options...

Howdy all!

I recently purchased my first Jeep, a 2003 Wrangler Sahara, and am looking at getting a second set of wheels and tires for off-roading. I have the tools and abilities to swap out my tires easily, and want a second set of tires that will be good in mud, but will also be okay for a little street driving. I'm wanting to get 31X10.5R15 tires, and I'll probably go with Pro Comp 98 rims. Does andyone have any suggestions for what tires I should get? I'll be mostly in mud and a little bit of rock crawling. I have been looking at The M/T Baja Claw Radials, the Cooper Discoverer S/T-Cs, and the Dick Cepek Mud Country Radials. Can anyone give me an opinion on those, or an opinion on other tires out there? I'm really not wanting to spend more than $200/per tire.

Now, to my other question... I have been combing the threads for a few days, but haven't found any reviews on the Skyjacker 2.5" System Lift Kit. I don't want to go really high, I'm just wanting a little bit of height, but I want something that will stand up to a little abuse off-road. If any of y'all can give me some info on that lift, or a similar-priced lift kit, any info would be great.

Hi and welcome

I have skyjacker on both of my jeeps and had no issues with their suspension set ups. I'd recommend them to anyone.

ack, dont buy that skycrapper junk. and don't buy from quadratec.

give Dirk a call at DPG-Offroad, tell him what you want to do and he'll get you setup with some quality components.

I can offer no help with the lift as mine is a pieced together hodge podge of springs, control arms, track bar, shocks, discos, all from different manufactures.

As far as tires and wheels, get something you can live with both off and on road. There may be a chance that once you get the new rubber and wheels, you may never put the stockers back on after a few times swapping back and forth.

That's what happened with my Jeep. I had a set of Rubi wheels and AT tires that I used to swap on the Jeep. Rode great, but looked goofy. I ended up selling them after 1 season.

If you want to spend a bit more, there is the BDS 2" which I have. You will find no bad comments towards BDS

Next is OME. It cost more and is very well liked.

Tires - I have Goodyear duratracs in31x10.50r15. Good both on and off road. Bought 5 of these mounted and balanced for under $1000.

Thanks for all the info! I talked to a fellow Jeeper that I work with yesterday who told me I should go with Dunlop Mud Rovers if I'm going to use them for DD. They're about $50 cheaper per tire than what I was looking at spending, so unless I hear differently, that's probably what I'll go with. The BDS Lift kits look really nice, as well os the OME, so thanks for the info on that too.

Keep in mind that mud tires are terrible in other than deep snow, and ice, and not the best in rain...... For a DD that might be something you want to consider.

If I went with a 3" BDS Lift (lets just say I spent the money for the "Ultimate 03-06 TJ Kit"), and I put 31x10.5 or 32x10.5 tires, would I need to regear or replace anything else drivetrain-wise? I really don't plan (or even have the opportunity for that matter) to do any major rock climbing, but I've heard that a 3" lift won't be very good for my Dana 35 axle... I've been looking for a guide for TJ lift kits, and what all needs to be done, but haven't been able to find anything that didn't just try to sell a certain product.
