Considering buying an older TJ Jeep Wrangler.

I am considering buying an older TJ Jeep wrangler but I am a little worried about reliability. It is a 2001 with 67,000 miles on it. Does anyone have first had experience with this model?

I bought my 2001 with 66k miles. super clean.
wranglers are known for their reliability.
engines go to 150-250k miles all the time.
Unless you have a reason to be worried then dont sweat it.
but condition is everything, Maybe some Pictures?

Just do Maintenance and keep it nice

Very Reliable.. with proper maintainece and depending on how much you beat on the engine.. You can expect around 300k with out thinking twice.. If you want to offroad your jeep, look for the D44 rear end (metal diff plug) vs pos D35 (plastic diff plug).. The D35 when off roading is considered the biggest weak point, but for a non off roaded Jeep the rear axle will not matter so much..

Enjoy you jeep and don't forget to wave

I bought a 2000 TJ Sport 4.0/5sp in the summer of 2010... it had just over 100k on it and now has almost 109k. I have had no issues with it other than routine maintenance, and typical 100k maintenance, all minor.

Some more details would be helpful...

Asking price? I purchased mine for 8-9k and it is in great shape.
Engine?
Heavy off-roading?
Area of the country it is from? (some regions are more prone to weather-wear)
Has the current owner taken care (internally/externally) of the vehicle?

A 2001 with 67k on it seems to be a rare find, has it been driven on a consistent basis? I've read that that may lead to some issues...

Hope this barrage of info/questions may help you out in one way or another!

Got my '01 with 38k a year and a half ago... no problems to speak of... did replace the rad, a couple months ago. It's a common problem. Other than that, just fluids and routine maint... Check it out, if it looks good, buy it

'97 2.5 here w/5 speed and 96,000.

I've had no major problems other than a plugged catalytic converter a few months ago.

If it isn't eaten through by rust underneath and had even a little bit of tlc, it should be okay, with the information supplied so far.

Not to mention, 67,000 is low mileage for an 01. Average is 12-15k a year for most vehicles.

I've got a 97 2.5 that the previous user abused for 95K and probably never did maintenance on other than maybe 10K oil changes. After giving her a little TLC, she's been rock solid.

If it looks good and drives good I wouldn't give that '01 a second thought. TJs are very easy to work on for the most part and are pretty reliable.

Is it still stock or has it been modded? Do you have any more details. It may be a bit old, but the mileage is low. What does she look like, paint condition? Crawl up under her, what do you see? Anymore details. Price?

I bought a stock '01 last year with 54K on it, looks and drives like a new one! Except for the top, it's a tad worn. I had to replace the stock radiator due to a SLOW leak, but that's it.

My g/f's jeep is an 01 sport, 4.0L. It's been alright, but now at 127K, it's giving us issues. I'm pretty sure it's coil pack related, but it's hard to say.

I just replaced my coil rail with help from here. One of the best repairs I've done. Beside the fact it was misfiring before, it runs so much better now

Yea, it runs fine most of the time, just sometime in the morning it'll idle high and it won't rev or have any power.

End thread hijack.
