control arm length?

In an attempt to get rid of some steering issues I bought a drop pitman arm and got some adjustible lower front control arms. I want to get the correct length pre-set before alignment. With stock uppers and a 3" lift, how long should I set the lower control arms for correct caster?

I think this is one of those things that's not just a set length. Kinda like ordering a drive shaft, even if you tell them all the lift details you still have to measure to get the right length. Same goes for 2 same model identical jeeps doing say a BB and one getting vibes and the other having none. No vehicle is exactly the same.

My jeep has a 4" lift, the arms are 16 1/8" from bolt center to bolt center. I know this does not help you but is there a manufacturer that makes a 3" suspension lift? I know there is 3 1/2". If someone has a 3" mabey they can chime in.

I know full traction makes a 3 in lift, I think black diamond by superlift has one also.

steering issue? what´s wrong?
i have 4.5" with stock CAs and stock pitman arm and it works fine.

if you install a DPA you also need lower the front track bar mount at the frame. otherwise the trackbar and steering linkage isn´t in the same angle. that will couse bad steering issues.

You shouldn't need a dpa for a the tj steering system.

Bump steer is bad. I figure getting the track bar parallel with the steering with a DPA might help. It also wanders a lot on the roads. I figure getting the caster back near stock might help this also.

Bump steer is usually indicative of a worn out steering stabilizer. My bone stock TJ had bump steer issues when i first bought it.

The steering should work fine even with out the steering stabilizer. The stabilizer just takes up some of the shock from the road. Maybe look into some adjustible ca's to set caster and pinion angle. Snap a pic of your front axle for us.

you need a new hole on the axle too if you're gonna use a DPA

I'd be more likely to suspect loose steering components (trackbar, control arms) or worn bushings before a drop pitman arm issue or worn out stabilizer. A stabilizer is more of a shock absorber to give a smoother ride via the steering wheel. It may mask issues with the steering - it will NOT be the culprit of a steering issue.
