I've seen a few Jeeps with a drop-down tailgate, and the old Jeeps all came with one. However, I never liked them because it just makes it a lot harder to get into the back to get tools etc. out. Which is why Jeep went to the side-opening tailgate.

To me, while there is a certain coolness factor to it, the negatives having to lean over a drop-down tailgate all the time would make it a no-go for me personally.

I've got the aluminum Swag kit on my TJ. It blends in with my Savvy corner armor and was a pretty easy install. I agree with Jerry that it can be a pain to reach into the Jeep at times. However, I normally run with a safari top so I can reach over the sides when needed. When it gets too hard to get stuff in and out of the Jeep I guess I'll trade it for a golf cart

I know is been awhile since someone had posted but I just did mine.
Had cj hinges leftover from1995 laying in garage and TJ hinges were frozen. Plus I have 3 hunting labs that prefer a tailgate to load onto.
It cost me $15. in materials.

4' of 3/16" coated strand
4 strand supports
1 piece of angle iron 1.5 x 1.5 x 3"

Now for corners, new fabbed tire carrier, and flush mount led tail lights
