Cost To Replace Airbag ???

I am looking at a 1998 TJ that has a SALVAGE title. The Jeep been hit in the left front fender, causing the driver's airbag to deploy. I do not know if there is any frame damage. I have not seen the vehicle personally, I have only seen the photos the seller has sent me.

The seller has replaced the fender.
  • How much will it cost to replace the airbag?
  • Is this something I can do myself, or do I have to get a mechanic to do it for me?
  • If I can do this myself, how much of a pain is it to do?
Provided there is NO frame damage, with 145,000 miles on it, he's asking $4850. Is that a fair price, if everything else is good?

(4 Cylinder, 5-speed)

Heck no, I would not consider it with a salvage title for that much. Probably not even if he had replaced the airbag already.

Here is the KBB for it in Fair condition.

Kelley Blue Book
KBB is a good guide to go by, but I guess the sellers in this area never consider KBB when pricing their Jeeps. Their prices are always way over what Kelly says they should be.

I realize that there has to be a little room for price negotiating, but the sellers will almost never come down to even close to what Kelly says they should be.

If sellers DID price their Jeeps closer to Kelly's prices, people would be buying Jeeps all day long.

I feel ya, but this one is way more than double. Did you look at the link?? That is an insane ammoun t of money for
a: a jeep with a salvage title
b: a 4 cylinder
c: unknown ammount of other damage from the accident.

I'm not hating on 4 bangers either (i have one)

One will do what they want in the end but I assume you posted it for opinions and I gave you mine. I know it's not the end all be all with KBB but it is a really good guide.

It's all good.

That many miles, still damage from collision that was bad enough to total the jeep; that's probably closer to a $3,000 jeep. The salvage title alone can reduce the value by more than 1/3 and you still have unrepaired damage. Frame damage isn't too expensive to fix but everything else can add up fast if you have to pay someone $50 to $100/hr labor
