cost to weld up a muffler

im planning on replacing my oem muffler with a cherrybomb glasspack. i figured i could clamp the front together and bring it to a shop to finish the work (bend a rear pipe and weld). called over to meineke and midas. they said ~$130 and ~$300 respectfully. i feel like this is a total ripoff for what should take an hour tops to do?! i need a pipe bent and 3 welds... at that price i might as well try my luck and clamp all of the components and get a prebent pipe from advance auto parts! help please?
thanks,
thomas

Find a locally owned shop. Steer clear of the chains. Locally owned will probably run less than $100....

We wouldn't charge more than $50 for that. If you brought your own pipe, our shop would probably weld it up for free. $300 is insane! I wouldn't pay more than $100.

might try an independent shop-but understand what you are saying-clamps may be the "cheaper" answer but will it last the same as if welded?

If done right, clamps hold up just fine.

yeah i got off the phone with a shop and they told me that it was actually a better idea to use 3-4" pipe clamps for it as i could adjust it if i didnt like the sound or wanted to alter it but with a weld, if there is any issues with it, its hard to change. so ill probably buy a pre-bent pipe and try it myself with the clamps
