Couple "add on" parts questions...

Hey guys!

This is my first Wrangler (of many to come) and I started at the bottom. I would of preferred goin with a Sport 4.0L but decided I'd just start with an SE 2.5L. My reason for this was to actually learn about the vehicle first and not go halfass on building up a 4.0. In my opinion, the 2.5 is pretty limited with the mods you can do to it (excluding large mods such as engine swaps, etc) so I started here to do it right and also the maintenance on the 4cyl is slightly easier than on the 4.0 (again, just my opinion).

I've been looking into a few mods for her and have been searching like mad to find opinions and posts about them but haven't had much luck. I ordered a K&N filter for starters just to get a little more air flowing through but will also want to open the exhaust slightly to let the air pass more freely. So, i've decided on a muffler but would like to know the correct size to get. All the systems i look at state 2.5" but i'm guessing the stock pipe sizing is 2.25. So if someone could clarify this for me, tha'd be great!

Secondly, i've decided to go with a Skyjacker 2" spacer lift with nitro shocks to get a little more clearance and be able to put a slightly larger tire on. Would you recommend this kit? If not, what would you guys recommend? Because my SE only has the 2.5L, I'm only going to go with 30x10.5x15 tires so the motor doesnt struggle to turn the new larger tires and also why i'm not going with a larger lift. Since i'm going with a larger tire than the stock 235's, thats why i went with a new filter as well as wanting to open the exhaust a bit. Besides these few mods, there really isnt much else i'd like to mod on her besides just learning the vehicle before upgrading in the next couple years.

Avoid the nitro shocks...I've heard they ride very rough. Hydro shocks are supposed to be fine though. I think your reasoning for going with the 2.5 over the 4.0 is a bit flawed...but eh...too late now so you'll just have to make the most of it.

Can't help you on the stock exhaust size... but FYI... Jeeps really don't benefit much from changing the intake or exhaust. That aspect was pretty well designed right off the line.

You don't need a lift for that size tire. I have them on my TJ and I get no rubbing and don't have a lift.

Stay away from the K&N. Do a search in the forum and you will read why. It is not needed and bad for the TJ.

Thanks for the reply on the lift, i'll go with the hydro shocks when i order the kit...i know a 30" will fit stock, but i like showing a nice gap of wheel well so for me a lift is a must, might possibly go with a 31" but we'll see when the time comes.

Sentenced - Thanks for the reply. For the most part, i agree with you on the 4.0. I do wish i had gone with a 4.0, but most of the sports around my area are terribly over priced and if they're cheap, then they're beat to hell. So with winter coming, i just needed to get something soon since my 1990 civic was about done for and my R6 doesnt get around too well haha. I found the exhaust size to be a 2.25 and will only be replacing the muffler instead of goin with a catback system. Want a little more sound without being "gross" since its only a 2.5L. Hopefully it will work out.

Atthehop - I've considered this as well...my main concern is how much debris and bullshit the KN will be letting in vs a stock paper filter. I got a new KN filter for cheap, so if i change my mind about it before putting it in i can just sell it without loss. I'll keep reading up on it and make the decision soon.
