Angry Crown HD steering rusted after 4 months

I installed the Crown HDSTRGCR1 HD steering kit in October. When I got it the tie rod boots were different on the drag link and tie rod than the tie rod ends but it all bolted up and fit. Now only a few months later, the tie rod ends, sleeves, and all the hardware is badly and completely rusted. The tie rod and drag link are fine but EVERY other piece is completely rusted.

They have approved an RMA, but before I re-order and do this all over again I'd like to know I will not end up with the same issue... I still have my 17 year old stock (not rusted) parts I suppose I could swap back on...

Anyone else here have this issue with Crown? Or did I just get a bad batch of EVERY piece.

You can rust proof the parts if you set on that steering system. Just use KBS rust seal and then the blacktop top coat. I have used this on my frame and axles and it works great.

I read about this happening to a few users. Seems like they use a very light coat of paint or nothing at all. Very similar to skyjacker shocks, which rust to hell after one salt season.

I just ordered this steering and going to paint it before install, like I do to most of my parts. Living in the rust belt gives me no choice unless I want my jeep to look like a UPS truck.

their steering kit is simply the cheapest off-the-shelf V8 ZJ components they can find....common at any auto parts store. That stuff doesn't come painted or coated with anything - you get as cast/machined parts. You live in the salt belt and it's the middle of winter.

I'm not surprised at all. btw, I grew up in Michigan & Ohio.....
