Curiosity on a Lift

I am just out of curiosity wanting to know how much money it would cost (just an estimate) to get a lift and a larger set of tires put on? I am new to all of this and just looking at the quadratec and jcwhitney catalogs I am thinking really bad thoughts about my wallet right now. Is there a way to do this stuff without breaking the wallet or getting crappy gear? By the way I don't know anything about putting a lift kit in and to get it done right I would have to go to a mechanic (don't have enough tools either).

Alright, first, you need to be more specific in what size you want. You can go with a 2" BB and it wont break your wallet, I think I have around 300 bucks invested not counting tires. Or you can go and take out a second mortgage on a 4" lift. With a BB, you can run 32's and have plenty of clearance. I have a 2" BB 1.25 BL. with 32's and looking to go 33's next. Installing a BB is not hard at all. If you can change a tire, you can install a BB. There are many topics covering all types of lifts, check them out.

For the same price as a 2" BB with shocks from som eother companies, you can get a real 2" spring lift with new shocks from Rusty's. That is what I am saving up fpr right now. 2" wil get you 32x 11.50s but you will need either spacers or new rims to prevent rubbing. If you get General Grabber AT2's for tires you can save yourself a bunch of money on tires.

My plan is this...
2" rustys kit... $310 plus shipping
5 Cragar D windows painted Black... $250
5 BFG Mud Terrains (31x10.50)... $750

So already lookin at over $1300. Then mount and balancing of tires will cost some more. If you have someone else do your lift.. that will add some... Another issue is driveline vibrations... if you get them ( not all do) how do you plan to fix them? I am going to go ahead and do the skyjacker T-case lowering kit.. they are about $100. And if you intend to do some offroading and want ful use of your new height, some quick disconnects are in order. You can do it yoruself ( look for other thread on how to..) or pay some more for a JKS quicker disco kit.. again i believe trhats another $100.

The good news is that most tire places can do 6 months or 3 months same as cash to make it a little more feasable.

thats a good route to go, but if your saving up for a real lift, why go 2"? Might as well save up for a 3.5 or more and you can always upgrade. Skyjacker tc drop is less then 100, but you can just go the hardware store and use grade 8 bolts and washers and save lots of $. Cragar soft 8's are $208.45 for 5 shipped from qaudretec.

not a bad plan but i don't recommend getting the bfg mud terrains. i have them and i do like them but i think you can find MUCH cheaper tires that are just as good

btw, you can find tcase drops for waaay less than $100

I dont really like teh round holes on the soft 8s... more of the d-window fan myself. And I am sticking to 2" and 31's because I have D35 with 3.07s... So going 4 inches and getting 33's would be new axles and gears and a $1500+ lift kit... thats like $5000 for a jeep thats only worth like $5000.

2" lift fits 32s?
thatĀ“s 2.5" OME (in real 3.25") and 2 BL. and the tires nearly rub.

This is an awesome setup for the $$$, basically what I did to my fiance's jeep and it can tackle some pretty tough trails considering the $$$.

http://www.4x4rockshop.com/scripts/p...dproduct=12772

A good mechanic should be able to install it in about 4-8 hours (I can and I am not a mechanic)

When my Fiance was running 32"s with a 2" BB and 1" body lift, we didnt extend the bumpstops and it didnt rub the fenders....well maybe it touched slightly...here are some pics when I tested everything for clearance.

If her fenders got bent, Believe me she would let me know about it

4WP/4WD is running 4 33x12.50x15 MT's with 4 15x8 black steelies + free M&B for $650.

Just got my 3" lift on and wish I'd done that from the start. Would have saved me several hundred dollars getting from point A to point B.
