Curious about stock spare tire carrier

I am going to be up grading my tires to 33 x 10.50 R15. Will the stock tire carrier be sufficient enough to hold a spare 33 x 10.50 R15, or not. I don't want to put unwanted stress on the back door.

I'm running 33 x 10.5". I bought the adapter bracket from Quadratec ($60).

No problems other than the tire sits on my RRC bumper and I have to pull if off to open ...not very convenient but it works.

personally i'd buy a tire carrier.

my buddy runs a 33x12.50 on the stock carrier of his YJ and his tailgate is definitely bent now.

Tire carrier, I'd go with a new rear bumper and a tire carrier on that, yea, some bucks but well worth it, most of those are adjustable so if you go bigger you can compensate. Actually if you can find someone to weld and some steel the only other cost is the bearing and bushing for the swing out. Wranglers and CJ's are so simple to make bumpers for compared to a ZJ or XJ it's a cake walk. Everybody that sells swing out bumpers generally also sells the bearing and bushing for around $30 and the catch for even less. It only gets a bit harder when you start cutting holes to mount the shackles and a receiver hitch and even thats not too bad if have patience, good set of drills for pilot holes and plenty of steel cutting blades for your jigsaw and/or sawzall.
I donj't really like mounting anything on the tail gate, we rolled one TJ a few years ago, 31" tires, slow roll too, the spare bent the snot out of the tailgate.
If you can figure out the bearing and bushing you could even it from McMasters.

Tire sitting on the bumper is what's saving his tailgate hinges.

I run a 33" on my stock carrier and it just recently started bending and now it rattles pretty bad. It's been on there for less than a year. I would HIGHLY recomend getting some support...

I had a 33" sitting on my bumper too, but it worried me everyday that it was on there, especially opening, and leaving it open for a few minutes while getting stuff in and out of the cargo area. I got tired of worrying, so I had a custom bumper and tire carrier made. For $400 I got a 1/4" bumper, and 1/8" thick tire carrier made, best thing I ever did for the Jeep!
