I went a little "outside of the box" and away from the aftermarket round ones that a lot of people use:

I just always liked the Jeep 'trailer' lights for whatever reason. The project probably took 2-3 hours, taking it easy. Not difficult by any means.

Yeah, I have been thinking off doing flush mount led tail lights, some of the oval style ones and mount them at an angle., but those look good to ^^^^

You might have a challenge or two in Cali with the law enforcement guys. By flush mounting the tail lights, you eliminated the license plate illumination required here.

and the ability to see the light from 90 degrees.

I went the 4" round LED route. These are a product made by American Super Light. They are around 25 a piece and really nice. They use HP LEDs so they should never burn out in the life of your jeep. For the 25 dollars I got the light, pigtail, and rubber grommet. They are viewable from 180 degrees and really bright.

Sorry for the trailer picture. Best I had on this computer at the shop.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but Mr C, that rig just blows my mind every time I see another picture. One hell of a job!

I've got the round leds in mine they are easy to install
I got them from carquest for $55
and for the license plate light I picked up a led light from autozone for $15 every one likes the license plate light

My idea is to mount the stock trailer lights flush, and put some very small LED side markers on the rear quarters. The License plate is going to go to inside the spare tire with a light. My question is now.. how do you flush those tail lights????

Cut a hole in the tub and mount.

I'd really like to get some H1 Military Hummer tail lamps, but they are like 70/each ... the LED versions are like $100+

Can you see them 180 degress because they're really bright or because of their shape?

IIRC, I think there's an issue with fitting those Hummer military buckets between the tailgate hinges. Maybe...

I know. I have plans on getting something like this --> http://www.designengineering.com/pro...asp?m=sc&cid=5, just haven't done it yet. I'd also planned on doing some small side marker lights, but again, just haven't done it. It's been over a year now, and (knock on wood) so far, no issues with law enforcement. I've even had them directly behind me on the road as well as when stopped at traffic signals, and again, no issues.

That's basically it...and grind off the little plastic nubs that the screw go into that hold the lens to the body of the tail light, then screw it directly to the tub. I actually used a silicone to hold the can to the tub, so I can take the lens off. Also, make sure you run a ground wire from the back of the tail light can to the tub, otherwise, your lights won't work correctly.

Because of their shape. They aren't flat like most truck stop style LED lights. Here is a better view of them which will allow you to see how they are visible in that range.

Yes. They are hard to see in the picture but they are there. Right behind my body mounts. You can see the little square lookin black lights. They are really crappy and don't work well so I plan to do some IPF reverse lights.

I'll post some pics tonight after I get home... the other night I installed some 6 3/4 x 2 3/4" oval white reverse led lights to compliment my 4" round turn signals.

suprisingly bright even in daylight and being LED they have a low amp draw so no electrical fires like when improperly wiring 50w backup lights.

Everyone has round LED lights... nothing wrong with them, but everyone runs them. I'd like the H1 lights as I've only seen 2-3 Tj's with them.
