I was replacing my head unit and cut a seemingly unrelated wire. It is a black wire that looks like it would be just a normal copper wire, but is instead a coax. It is connected to a small black box that rests behind the heater controls on the left half of the dash opening. It has a thing on it that says it is FCC approved or whatever. It is a little bit bigger than a deck of cards.
I have a 1997 TJ Sport.
Everything is running fine and there are no lights on the dash.
In the manual there was a huge warning about cutting airbag wires and I wanted to make sure that is not what was cut.
The fact that it is coax and near the stereo and that it didn't throw any lights on the dash and everything runs leads me to believe it was part of the old stereo set up that I am no longer using.
I just wanted to know what it is that was cut, and if it needs to be replaced. It looks like it would be quite a job to replace it because it goes directly into the black box.
