D ring question

Possibly a stupid newbie question, but does anyone coat their D rings with anything to prevent rust? They dump salt on the roads in northern Ohio any chance they get. I was thinking of dipping mine in the rubberized tool handle coating you can buy at Home Depot. My thoughts are: this would provide some protection against chips, and protect my bumper from the D rings banging against it. Good idea, or will it cause issues for my recovery straps?

Just put some anti-seaze in the treads when you put them on so you can actually get them off when you need them.

I don't have a rust problem with my d rings . They are always inside my Jeep (on the left side of my drivers seat in a bag with a tree saver). They only come out when I actually need them .

First, the shackles are likely galvanized so rust should not be an issue for them. More importantly, I wouldn't leave them mounted since all they do is rattle and make noise. I accidentally left mine installed after using them early one offroading trip and then they started banging on the obstacles. I thought I had broken something major and stopped to check 3-4 times worried sick over the noise that made me think my axle was going to fall off. Then I figured it out and took the shackles off again, no more banging.

Seems like your like me and like to keep yours on, so to actually answer your question man, I think you should be fine without dipping them in that rubber coating. They will most likely not rust ifthey are galvanized. Now if your also like me and like black ones, I'd say coat em! Now when you go to use them with recovery more than likely that coating will come off. So either just keep coating them or buy black ones like I did.
