D30 with 37's

So I am looking at moving up to 37's and have a D30 up front, should I swap the axle out to a 44 or will upgraded chomoloy axle shafts hold up?

I realize the ring and pinion become the weak point

Thoughts???

Hmmmm, I'm sure somebody here has more experience then me but my understanding is that anything over 35's require dana 44's to really work as they should.
What is your ring/pinion current ratio?

Current ratio is 3.73, but I would move to 4.88.

I am also thinking about swapping out to a HP30 out of a Cherokee so that I have the reverse cut gears.

I have seen it live with 36's and 37's for a while, but the end result is broken shafts, bend tubes or busted ball joints. Go 60's and forget about it... Heck I busted mine up locked on 33's. My pick would be skip the 44 and go for the 60.

I would say that if you can get a hold of a Dana 44 do it. You will be risking some stuff with that set up.

You would definately want either D44's or Ford 9" would be best bet depending on funds.
Also for a rear option you could go with Ford 8.8 w/ 35spline shafts.

4.88 gears should be good, but depending on auto or manual, maybe jump to 5.13's

My gearing upgrade next summer will be 5.13's allowing me to cover tire size from 35's up to 37's on my D44. I'm in the process of hunting down either some Hi-9's or considering the Spidertrax 9's.

Not sure I want to move to 5.13's with it being my daily driver and all.

I have thought about the Ford front and rear set up as well.

Keep the feedback coming.

How much do you currently or plan on driving as a daily driver????

Are you planning on a Long Arm kit for the 37's as well???

Yea, but keep in mind that might as well re-gear just once, cause there's usually the trickle effect of running 37's.

If you have room for 37's that usually means 39's & 40's start sounding nice as well and can usually find room to mount them... LOL

I'm picking the 5.13's so it covers me upto 37's & possibly 39's

Another option for D44's would be some of the Ford D44's were listed as being stronger then the Jeep 44's

D60's with 37s is nice but you'll loose ground clearance with the pumpkins.

True, but this is the trickle effect from 33's.

A friend has 38" boggers on his D30 with chromo shafts and a OX locker. He broke the ring gear some years ago. But that was all. The other parts were strong enough.

I ran a 30 for a few years with 4:88's, cromo, locker, 37's. It held up ok. Not great... but ok.
