Damn noise!

So I'm thinking this noise I'm hearing is my brakes, but not sure. Whenever I stop and then start to accelerate, I hear this squeaking sound. I do know my brakes need to be replaced be Use my brake light is on so I'm doing that this weekend. But I'm thinking maybe it is the wheel bearings.... Does anyone know anything bout these

If ya dont hear squeaking when you stop....

But you do hear it when you accellerate.....

Also think about your U-Joints.

If the sound seems to ocilate fater than the wheels are revolving, that might be your issue.

Just a thought.

It doesn't make a noise at all when I'm driving fast. It's only when I start to accelerate and when I'm coasting at like 10 miles an hour. Sounds weird but that's the only time it happens

Is your sound a long, drawn out squeal or a short chirping?

I had a irritating squeak in my 97 for a long time. I could only hear it when I was going slow, and mostly when i first accelerated, like you. It clearly wasnt a brake or bearing noise, which would be a continuous sound. This was short chirping squeaks.

I thought it was the passenger seat, then i thought it was something in my roof bows, finally found the culprit in the back seat. The rear seat bracket was flexing or rubbing, just enough against the wheel hump in the tub to make an annoying chirp sound as I took off from a stop.

Well crap I hope not not tj Timmy, but ya it only is from the front wheels. I also have a noise that is coming from what I think is my driveshaft, any time I go over a hump in the road turning it will make a noise like it is hitting somethin really bad.

One other thought is one of the pulleys on the belt system. Especially the alternator, the bearings will start to go and then squeak. Quite annoying.

U joints... Would be my guess.. I just replaced mine. Give it a week if the sound gets worst. That's probably what is. Trying greasing everything under the truck that you can. Or do one u joint drive it and see if it's the same. Then do the next one and drive it. That may help eliminate which one it is. One at a time....

I'd start with the brakes first being your light is on then go from there check for gruves in drums and rotors make sure rotors are free to move
If the light is on I thought it means your low on fluid .Might have a bad caliper

Agreed, you should check your pads and rotors first because your light is on, but it could be u-joints as well. Couldn't hurt to check them for play or wear while you are checking your brakes.

1st things first. Brakes are the most important system on a rig. Double the importants when pointing down hill at extreme angles. Fix your brakes. Or at least Inspect. I have seen the metal tab bent in from all sorts of junk. If that tab is bent in it will give you a false or premature warning squeal.
