Dana 60 Front Axle

Got a call from a friend of a friend of a friend. He's got a Dana 60 out of a 78 ford for sale. It needs to be completely reworked is what he said, but it is a complete axle from drum to drum. Comes with steering stabilizer and cross members. Anyway, the price is $350, do you guys think this would be good for me to pick up? Will it work with a 2001 TJ? I'm in the middle of rebuilding my engine (broken piston skirts) and would rather not spend the money unless this is a good deal. I understand I would have to put it a side until I could get time to work on it. Let me know what you think?

where is it located? If you don't buy it, I will. If it's truly a kingpin D60 out of a 78 F250/F350 Sno-Fighter SRW...then $350 is smoking good deal. Those are some of the most sought after front axles you can get. They go for around $1200 here...in need of a complete rebuild...

btw, that should be a disc front, not a drum front....and fitting it in your TJ is a whole different ball game...but you could easily resell it if you decide not to use it.

Thanks for the reply, I'm planning on taking a look at it tomorrow. I spoke to the seller again and he said that it's locked up. Not sure exactly what he's meaning other than it won't turn? I'll see if I can find the wife's camera and sap some pictures of it. I'm sure he said drum to drum, but I'll know tomorrow for sure.

Well a little update. The axle looks to be a Dana 60, just it's got drum brakes on it and there's no serial numbers anywhere that I've found so far (Any ideas?). Because of that I talked the guy down half price. Oh and of course I can't get the freaking camera to work. Anyway, it's sitting in my garage for now.. I'll tinker around with it more when I have the time.
