Dead battery, weird beeping...

Well I went out to start up the Jeep after about three weeks of it sitting and I got nothing, no gauges, no lights, it didn't even try to start. So I went and got my trickle charger for the RV's batteries and hooked it up. About a minute into the charging I got this weird beeping coming from the dash and my gauges were jumping up and down. This was with the key out, when I put the key in the on position it stopped beeping and the gauges just went back to zero. I have an Optima Red Top that the previous owner put in just over two years ago and the terminals look clean and are tight. I haven't gotten a chance to jump it yet, should that fix my problems or is my battery toast?

As the battery starts slowly coming back to life with that trickle charger, its voltage can pass through a zone where the computer is barely starting to energize so you can get any number of strange issues like beeping.

A trickle charger is not the way to bring back a dead battery, it can't provide the heavy inrush current that a dead battery requires. Use a real battery charger with at least 8-10 amps capacity and let it charge overnight.

Jump starting a Jeep with a dead battery isn't going to produce good results because if the battery is really dead or close enough to dead, the alternator won't be able to put out power & the engine will either not run at all or will barely idle.

Do an overnight charge with a real battery charger and it will likely be fine.

Alright Jerry, I jumped it before I read your post and it started up just fine but idled around 500 rpm. I let it sit for a while with my hand throttle at about 1300 rpm for about 15 minutes. I'm going to drive it around for a bit and then put it away for the night, should I hook up my battery tender in "charge" mode or just see if it starts up in the morning?

Dead batteries don't charge that quickly, I'd charge it overnight... with a real charger, not a trickle charger which is really only meant to keep a charged battery charged over an extended period of non-use.
