Defective new crown/quadratec water pump

Man was I having a good night until about 9 pm. The story starts that my water pump had a slight drip. I've installed lots of water pumps on cars, jeeps, motorcycles, etc.. I decided to call quadratec and order the crown pump. The photo shows a gasket so I ask if it's included. They say no and I add $1.79 to my bill. It shows up and now I have two gaskets because it does include a gasket. Not a major problem but, slightly annoying. I wonder how many folks have an extra gasket now? OK, I'm sure it was just an error.

Anyway, I get the pump and decide to knock it out this weekend. Everything is going as normal when suddenly I bolt the pulley on and it won't move. I bolt it back on the old pump and it spins fine. I compare and see the new pump is fatter/swollen in the outlet to the lower hose. The old pump has a steep profile and clears the pulley just fine. So now quadratec is closed and I have a Jeep that is down and tomorrow is Sunday. I understand the pump profile is not quadratec's fault. Sort of. I mean, the grocery store or a restaurant doesn't raise cows but I'd still be mad if they gave me a bad quality steak.

So. I'm frustrated that my Jeep is stranded on such a straight forward job. My inclination is to buy another pump and finish tomorrow. Why can't anyone make a good water pump? I'll pay more if someone would guarantee it'll fit.

Hopefully quadratec will handle shipping and return of this ill fitting pump.

Old pump is ugly but barely dripped and you can see the slope here on the right side of the pump.

I considered making my factory pulley fit the defective swollen pump casting. When it's bolted down it seems like it more than a little bit. It dragged until I bolted it down completely at all four and then it was locked down tight. Even if it's .5 mm I'd rather run my pulley up to napa and make sure I get one that fits. FYI the bottom side seems a lot more swollen and I think it would take quite a bit of material removed. I don't think I captured the issue in my quick iPhone photo.
Water pumps aren't supposed to be massaged into place like a quarter panel to door gap. It should bolt up.

Hi there, very sorry to see this! I can definitely pick it up at no charge and either have a new one sent or issue a refund. Please PM me your info and how you would like to proceed.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

I have to wonder if the pulley flange was pressed a little too far onto the shaft. If so, pressing the shaft back in just a bit (relative to the flange) might resolve the interference issue. Or, if it's necessary to get the vehicle back in service, spacing the pulley out with a washer (one per bolt) between the pulley and flange might work as an interim solution.

I wouldn't recommend using any kind of spacers behind the pulley, the belt can do wicked things when it comes off a misaligned pulley.
