Dem's Da Brakes...

Yeah, poor title... So first off I want to start out by saying that I don't want to do the disk brake conversion, but I do need to change out my brakes. I know next to nothing about changing brakes. Can anyone offer some good suggestions on brands or upgraded pads or anything like that? Again, I don't know a thing about brakes, so be gentle!

Also I am trying to figure out what to look for that tells me that I may need to change my rotors and drums. This is more for future use than it is now, but I don't know what I am looking at when I am looking at brakes and drums and rotors. I was told that if my Jeep starts shimmying and shaking really bad when I mash the brakes that it's probably the rotors, so I want to make sure of what to look out for. Thanks in advance for the help!

This is a good write up for the pads up front.
Jeep brake pad change

if you have drum brakes in the back, and it sounds like you do, give this a look. It will either help you understand, or help go deeper into confusion.

Great links above. As far as a company for the brakes, Black Magic Brakes are about as good as they get. I will be ordering new brakes from Black Magic within the next month or so.

Thanks for the links! I wish the second one was more like the first, though. I am going to have to register for yet ANOTHER forum to be able to search there, too! Great info there! The second one was good, but the pictures are so small it was tough for me to be able to read the text and examine the pictures at the same time...

Ok, so I basically went to the second link, and having the CDO (that's OCD, just in the correct order!) that I sometimes have, I copied all the instructions into a word document and clicked on each picture and blew them up so that it made it easier to look at what's there and pasted them into the word doc. If anyone wants the write up on that, it's from the Jeep Rear Drum Brake Remove - Install and Adjust website, PM me and I can sent it. MUCH easier when you can see the pics while reading the text!!!

Ok, so what's a good brand to go with for the brakes, aside from Black Magic Brakes.

EBC Yellowstuffs are good, I currently run them to stop my 33" tires. That stated, I have a pair of Blackmagic pads in my garage waited to be installed.

You cant beat the Black Majic front pads and Centric rotors, they STOP! I believe the package price for both the Black Majic Pads and two new Centric rotor is around $250 just a bit more than buying Advanced Auto or NAPA stuff but well worth it
They also have rear shoes and drums for the rear.

If the rotors are not scarred up then why put new ones on? I have always put on top quality pads and never had any problems with the rotors as long as they were not gouged or anything.
