Design ideas???

Anything you guys and gals like to see made for Jeep Wranglers that hasn't been built yet???

I'm not saying I'm going to build it, I'm just taking a break from other things I'm working on and looking for ideas of things to design.

Yeah a subwoofer box somewhere other than the tiny trunk would be great.

I like that amp rack idea though, might have to use that. Know of any for under the front seats?

Hmm, first post doesnt seem to be showing up. I apologize if this ends up being a repost:

Oh awesome, I've had an idea that I've wanted to see hit the market for quite some time. Basically its a pair of transverse bars that can be hand tightened onto the rollbars. My reason for these would be for a surfboard rack when the top is down. A quick screw on/off design is key, because I want to be able to take them down promptly if the weather turns sour. There is a quick rack that exists right now that is close, but you have to use tools to install it. If the bars could work with Thule/Yakima equipment, then all the better!

Beyond that, if you want to go into the realm of ultra-special, a pair of transverse bars that are permanently mounted on the rollbars, BUT have some sort of easy drop down system so instead of being above the rollbars when in use, you can quickly lower them to be in between the rollbars and then put the soft top up.

I'm not sure if explaining these in words makes enough sense, but hopefully you get the gist of it.

That's an easy one. Also makes for a good excuse to add a tube bender to my Christmas list

Doesn't Tuffy make a center console for holding a subwoofer ?

Thought I saw it in a catalog.

I'd rather have the storage in the center console. There isn't much, but it does come in handy.

I've heard nothing but good things from Gen Right on their larger tanks they build. 900 is still expensive, but it comes standard with a 3/16th tank skid already on it.

Ah, I see. I don't know much about sound systems, good to know Tiburon. I still have the stock cassette player and front dash speakers, hate it - but can't afford to upgrade yet.
I like the idea of storage in the console over anything else there also Geeps.

I would love to have an extra few gallons of fuel, but for the price I'll stick with the jerry-cans.

i had a simple design for a roof rack system that mounted where the read bumper mounts and hinges there, then would attach at the windshield with a clip or something, so when you wanted to put the top down, you could unclip the front, and hinge the whole thing back, then put it back down when the top was down. could use for bike rack, kayak, snowboard, surfboard, etc. just never had the means to create it. and never really saw anything already made that fit what i wanted.

Thats a nice tank, but still a bit pricey thanks for the link though.
I was actually thinking of designing an auxiliary tank that would fill off, and add to the capacity of the main tank. Like a Harley Fat Bob design. That way you would get extra capacity without having to change out the main fuel extraction point for the pump, and the gauge would still read accurately. Unfortunately I am not an engineer and wouldn't know where to start and don't have the resources at the moment. One draw back to this design would be more hoses on the undercarriage to get damaged and possibly leak all the fuel out while wheeling.

how bout a handy dandy style rack that would hold a Mag Light and a fire extiguisher and maybe a tow strap that went on one of the bars. never seen one that had all of that on it.

yeah sure, where-ever, just something that keeps that kind of stuff that you would want to use up off the floor.

I have a couple of ideas.

First, a rock/bug screen that mounts between the grill and the radiator. The only ones I have seen mount on the outside of the grill. I have not looked that close on my TJ to see how to mount one or access to place it. It would have to still allow for the hood latch to open.

Second, I saw someone who had bent a flat piece of metal that stuck out between a gap between the plastic dash pieces to mount something on. I thought about a piece of flat metal that would run out so you could mount a Mic and maybe a GPS on without drilling the plastic dash that is in front of your right knee just below the gages between the center bezel and steering wheel. I have not taken the dash apart there to see whats under that piece.

Third, Basically the same idea as number 2, but a flat piece of metal that would slip between the top of the dash and the windshield and lay horizontal above the dash to temporarily mount a radio on in the center of the dash.

Any of this make sense without drawings?

Seems to me there has to be a better way to design a ham/CB antenna mount...

Ha ha ha! That's was exactly what I was thinking. I just looked at mine today and there had to be 5 pounds of good ol West Texas dust on my dash.
